Switching from nvidia to ATI

I have built 3 gaming machines, all of which have had nvidia GPU's. as of now my computer has a gtx 260 in it, it still runs alright but its getting extremely outdated. So i was looking at my price options and even though i have loved all of my nvidia cards, i have decided on a 6870 because i REALLY do not want to spend more then 200 dollars on a card, even though id love to get a 560ti. anywho i have heard bad things about ati drivers, so i was wondering, can i just slap the 6870 in and throw the drivers on. or is it a necessity to remove the old nvidia drivers? also if anyone knows where i can get myself a 560ti for <200$ that would be awesome, because other than newegg and tigerdirect, i have no clue where to shop. thank you

Another possibility is to get a standard GTX 560. It is a little slower than the HD 6870 but still pretty good.

To be quite realistic, the AMD Radeon drivers aren't as terrible as people make out. When the cards were new they were a bit buggy, but that is to be expected. Heck ALL GPU drivers are a bit buggy when the cards are new. For example the GTX 560 Ti had a lot of issues with driver incompatibilities with people experiencing crashes during gaming. As both AMD and NVidia are in the middle of their release cycle the drivers should be pretty good.

Please also don't forget that the new range of GPUs are about to be released either later this year or early next. These will always be faster and use less power. You might want to hold out until the AMD 7000 series or the NVidia 600 series. Please note however that you will probably be experiencing the same pricing issue then as you are now.

yea, i found a gigabyte gtx 560ti on newegg for 215 bucks after shipping and after i get my rebate back, so i think im just gonna go with that. thank you guys though
