Switching motherboards with an OEM version of windows 10

If I upgrade my motherboard will windows 10 transfer over as well? I remember reading something about how windows identifies different computers by the motherboard, and if you switch out the motherboard it is considered a different machine.

Yes, it's considered a new machine with change of MB only but you may get it transferred using Activation assistant and your MS account. That could work on versions 1607 and up. In some cases calling MS can also get some positive results.
