system beeps when OS is running..why?

Hi we recently upgraded my g/f's comp to a P4 using a gigabyte borad (8S648FX-RZ), when the OS is running there can be the occasional single beeps like you would expect at system startup when it runs through the bois check etc, the beeps have been getting rather frequent lately and starting to lock up the mouse, i've been told it could be cause of ram but i doubt that, the ram she has was runing in my P4 with no probs.

anyone else know of this happening from other gigabyte boards?
