Hi everyone,

My friend has recently completed their first build and is having trouble getting it to post. I've gone through the "No Post, System won't boot" thread with them and they're still having trouble.

Specs:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P
CPU: AMD FX 8350
RAM: Corsair DDR3 8GB (CMV8GX3M1A1600C11)
GPU: MSI GTX 1050ti OC
PSU: Ace A-850BR (850w)

Just to confirm, he has:

- Read the manual
- Checked the 12v ATX connection
- Checked standoffs
- Checked GPU (model is also one that doesnt need power connectors)
- Tried with one stick of RAM
- Checked CPU (as a side note, it was a 2nd hand cpu that came with a bent pin that he straightened using a pencil)
- No thermal paste on mobo, cpu socket etc
- CPU fan is plugged in
- No screws etc on mobo
- System speaker gives no beep code
- Front panel plugs inserted correctly
- PSU switch has been turned on
- CPU is supported
- CMOS has been reset both with cmos reset and taking the battery out

He has already replaced the motherboard (a different Gigabyte 970a-ds3p) and the pc turns on and cpu fan, case fans all spin etc but he gets no display.
This is also what happened with the previous motherboard.

I'm guessing with the previous issue with the cpu pin being bent, this is the most likely cause? All of the parts are pre-owned except for the cpu fan, case, and PSU.
I think it's not likely to be a RAM or GPU issue as he has used them in his previous pc with no problem.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have and I can pass them on - he doesn't use the internet much.

Please tell us he did not buy these parts recently.
Yeah, he did. I know they're ancient by todays standards and I did recommend a move to at least AM4 but I guess his budget is what his budget is. If I recall he's upgrading from an FM2 build.

Over a decade old, and not really good when it was new.

With that collection of used ancient parts, the problem could be anything.

That's fair to say! I will let him know and see what he wants to do.

Thanks for your help, both of you.
