Hello everyone,

Recently I bought Elite Dangerous, and sadly, whether due to the apparently horrendous launcher, or my own computer's flaws, it's not working. I am really interested in playing the game and after putting in a ticket to the support team and searching through forums for three weeks and trying everything I have been told that might fix it, it has not gotten closer to being solved at all.

I'm at the point where I'm getting ready to say "F*ck it, I'll just get a clean slate," and wipe my hard drive, because that has been the only thing that has been told to fix my problem, that I haven't done yet. Thing is though, I don't know how to do this, and I would like to be able to save my game files and photos and such, but NOT the problem with the computer that's not letting me download the said game. I do not have a backup to restore to, and I'm interested in any ways to do this without purchasing an external hard drive capable of downloading 200+ gigs of game information. Also, I don't have the installation CD for the GPU I bought (AMD Radeon 7700 series) and I'm curious on whether or not I'd have to buy another installation CD or if I can get that from the internet, or even if that'd matter.

I'm looking for tips and lessons on how to go through this process and save these files that I've mentioned, and hopefully solve a number of other problems that I've had on my computer, such as windows update failures and such. The computer is still in fine working shape, it's just this small flaw that is literally driving me nuts. Thanks you in advance for any help.

Windows 7, you can download the official ISO here:

Burn that ISO to a DVD and install.

For your games and other stuff...you really need a secondary drive for some sort of backup.

sorry to hear about this, but I can't really figure out what kind of issue you're having with the game. I don't want you to have to format your hard drive just for this game so I would really save that as a last resort so if you could shed some more light on the problem that would be great.
And if you do decide to reinstall the OS you can just use your cpu integrated graphics (plug your monitor into your motherboard not gpu) and then download the latest drivers online or have them on a flashdrive ready to go.
As for your info on the drive theres nothing you can really do to save them if you dont have a backup already on there unless you port them to another drive or just redownload them all.

Well I have serious doubts on any fixes for the error, but whenever I open the launcher for the game for it begin the download process, it fails. I've tried every possible solution I've heard of and nothing has worked, and recently I tried downloading another program, completely separate, it's called "Air Droid and is used for sending stuff to your phone, and it is suffering the exact same issue some how. The programs fail immediately and come up with a "-insert name of program here- Has Stopped Working," and then just close out and don't actually launch there respective programs. This has also been an issue reported on other people's computers, so it's not something completely local to mine.
