About 2 Months ago i bought a ryzen system as spec'd Below. I had it running just fine in my old Full Tower Thermaltake Chaser-A71. I got the cougar qbx about 2 weeks later. within one week of being in the cougar qbx the system began to shut down(black screen everything shuts down in less than a second) with no warning while gaming. This would happen within 5 to 10 minutes of launching a game.
I swapped my original HD7850 with my other HD7850 thinking the first card was dying.eventually the one i switched out began to follow the same pattern but with longer times in-between crashes.
I checked out the program Who Crashed and it stated the GPU drivers failed. I switched between older and newer drivers even reinstalling windows and the result was the same
I checked my GPU's on my old system and they wont crash when playing the same game or any game for that matter.
I switched out power-supplies, no change.
switched my hard drive to my old machine, no issues.[strike][/strike]
Used Windows Memory Diagnostic tool, didn't report any errors.
From what ive seen the machine will only fail in games, not in benchmarks([strike]unigine valley[/strike], cinnebench, Edit😛rime95), not in programming, not when watching videos or browsing the web.
I have changed cases and checked for any debris or damage to the mother board but can not find anything. No cases change the performance.
Tested under Linux same situation.
EDIT: After testing with 2 Old GPUs ive come to the conclusion that the issue is CPU bound as games that dont fully utilize the GPU Crash faster and games that push the GPU to its utilization cap dont seem to crash. I came to this conclusion by testing the HD3850 and the HD6850 which both reached their utilization cap and did not cause a crash.
I believe this is a memory issue with ryzen and after looking up the memory compatability list for my motherboard i have found that my memory is not on the list.
Games tested based on Original GPU:
Borderlands 2 --Plays for upwards of 10 minutes then crashes. GPU utilization:unsure
Warframe --Plays approx 10 minutes then crashes. GPU utilization: approx 70%
Wurm Online --Plays for 5 minutes or less then crashes. GPU utilization: Approx 20%
EDIT: Astroneer --Playtime indefinite? GPU utilization 99%
Spec's:
Ryzen 5 1600 - watercooled with corsair H75i --i checked for any breaches, nothing found.
Asrock Fatality B350 ITX
G.SKILL Trident Z 2x8 16GB 3000MHz
WD 1TB Black: Windows 10 64bit
XFX Radeon HD7850 1GB: Factory OC 975 from 860
Corsair CX750M
Other Components tested in rig:
XFX Radeon HD7850 1GB 860MHz --this was the second GPU tested, lasted longer in games.
Corsair GS700 --second power-supply tested.
