Hey guys,

Posted about upgrading system about 1.5 years ago, ended up just dropping an i7-4790 in my current build. (Idk if you can see what I asked in post history)

So the time has come for an overhaul I think given that my current system is unable to be upgraded bit by bit.

Current Spec;

GPU - NVIDIA 1060 GTX 1060 3gb
CPU - i7 4790 @ 3.60GHz
MOB - H81m-P33 DDR3
RAM - DDR3 8gb x2
PSU - (can't remember and can't see it in this case without taking it apart, gonna be buying new one anyway)
CASE - Gamemax RGB
HDD - 120gb
SSD - 1TB

I've been doing some research and have come up with the following parts that I can buy;

Build #1
AMD Ryzen 3600 = £170
B450 Tomahawk MAX = £95
Corsair DDR4 1x16gb = £60
NVIDIA 1060 GTX 1060 3gb = £0
Corsair RM750 = £85

= £410

Build #2
AMD Ryzen 2600 = £107
ASRock B450 = £75
Corsair DDR4 1x16gb = £60
NVIDIA 1060 GTX 1060 3gb = £0
Corsair TX-M 650 = £70

= £315

Also may be looking at getting a new case (may decide against if can just fit it all in same case I have), system is still working fine and its not an issue waiting just think it's time i upgraded and got away from DDR3 :D

Any thoughts between the 2 builds or anything that I could change? I currently use it for my job (online poker pro, so playing 20+ tables at a time) and have 4 monitors (27" Samsung curved as main monitor then x3 HP 24" in a 3x1 formation)

Cheers
Josh

I would def keep the 3600 and change your RAM and PSU. You don't need a 750 Watts unless you intend to upgrade your GPU later.

AMD Ryzen 3600
B450 Tomahawk MAX
Corsair DDR4 2x8GB
NVIDIA 1060 GTX 1060 3GB
Corsair RM500 to 600

You need 2 sticks of RAM to get your Dual Channel's going. PSU can be anywhere from 500 to 550 or 600 and you're fine and you have headroom.

Thanks I've just ordered those but gone with the 750 as you said, I will probably be looking to upgrade GPU at some point.

Any ideas on a decent card around the £200 range? Also would it be possible to run a new card alongside my one now ?

Cheers
Josh

'true' SLI is not available to the 1060 and even if it was I would not recommend you SLI anyway. SLI is less and less supported by anything. Going for 1 good GPU instead is better. Let me check for a GPU.

Sorry I have no idea why I said "Is your friend". Was probably another thread with a friend PC.

Keep the GTX 1060. If you're not happy with the performances which I doubt you will since you're using 1080p 60Hz monitor just look at a better GPU later but keep the £200 for the moment.

Keep saving money for a better GPU later. It's worth it. For the meantime your 1060 should be fine.

Don't forget 2 sticks of RAM. Not 1 ;)

No joke I just went to boot my PC up and it started as usual going to boot (mobo logo shows) then just turns itself off lol. I guess it heard me talking about upgrading it and decided it didnt want to give me those extra couple of days whilst I wait for new gear to arrive lol.

In regards to the 1060 that's nps I can do that then.

Edit : I got 2x8gb dw ;) well hopefully this randomly and spookily dying now is the mobo and not GPU haha otherwise I guess I'll have to get another one.

Are you serious? Well it happened to me once. I decided to buy a new PC and when I got it the same day my OS drive in my old PC decided to break. It's like they know they are gonna get replaced.

Good luck and have fun with your new build! :D

Thanks mate I'll probably check back in on Tuesday when all my gear comes, and starting to assemble all together. Will post pic when it all works first time (here's to hoping) haha.

I may have just gone and basically bought a new rig.

CASE - Corsair Carbide Mid Tower
PSU - Corsair RM570
GPU - MSI 5700
CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600
MOB - B450 Tomahawk MAX
RAM - 2x8gb Corsair Vengeance 3000 speed (probs should have got the 3200 but w.e)

Only thing I haven't bought that I am hoping will transfer over is the hard drives (cos I cba reinstalling windows etc)

Ty for your help btw :)
