My desktop will not boot up anymore. All of the components, hard drives, fans, graphics card, etc. all seem to have power, but the system will not display anything nor will it boot up. I troubleshooted myself into deciding that it was the CPU that burnt out as it sat at idle temps of 45-50 degree C and much higher temps when under load.
I went ahead and purchased a vishera 8320 (as I have an AMD3 and an AMD3+ mobo I was stuck with vishera if I wanted any sort of upgrade from my x4 965) and a new case with far superior cooling and just spent the entire day putting it together. i went ahead to go turn it on and what do you know, the problem I thought I was fixing by getting a new CPU was not fixed with new CPU.
Reasons I blamed it on cpu:
- Tried booting on with another (weak) psu from a friend that he had lying around. Nothing changed.
- Using the old AM3 mobo I have lying around. Same issue presented itself, just with that motherboards way of showing it via LEDs
- Everything seems to power on when the computer is powered on. Hard drives are spinning, fans are spinning, motherboard is lighting up.
- Neither mobo showed any codes. As the codes are generated by the CPU (from my understanding), this was one of the signs that my CPU may have burnt out.
- When I got home the night I found the computer dead, the apartment smelled faintly of some sort of burnt smell.. when I held my nose to the old processor pins I could smell that same smell - though pretty faintly as this was a few days after it happened.
- Tried plugging everything in bare-bones - just the CPU, 1 memory stick, and the power - it still wouldn't beep or generate any codes for me on the mobo to troubleshoot with.
Now that replacing the CPU hasn't seemed to fix it, I'm very lost. And confused. And sad. And, well, frustrated as all hell 🙁
Parts for new config:
sexy Rosewill Thor v2 full-tower case
ASUS M5A99X Evo mobo
amd vishera 8320
coolermaster v6gt heatsink/fan
corsair tx850w psu
evga geforce gtx 460
zotac gtx 460
3 hdd's
1 ssd (with os)
2 (working, 1 other that doesn't work and you can't use 3 -.-) G.SKILL sticks of memory
LG blu-ray super multi yadayadayada drive
Old Config:
Same as above but with different case cpu and cooler
- amd phenom II x4 965 cpu
- crappy flashy case with no cooling
- crappy aftermarket pre-built water-cooing system. I can find model if at all important.
I hope I'm in the right place to get help with this. Thanks in advance anyone and everyone!
