My PC had been crashing over the last few weeks, completely freezing and I’d have to turn it off by the power button. I tested my RAM sticks, they are fine. I ran an sfc scannow in command prompt and it found a corrupt file and fixed it. I did a check disk scan on all 3 of my SSD’s and no issues were found. Having been monitoring temperatures, nothing was overheating either.

Now today my PC froze like it has been. Except when I went to power it back on, nothing happened. There isn’t a single light inside the system that is displaying. I unplugged every USB/peripheral connected and cleaned out the dust in my PC and tried again. Still absolutely nothing.. not a single light.

My system is as follows:

Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64bit OEM DVD
Intel Core i9 10900K Processor
MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ventus 3X 10GB
Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL18 DDR4
NZXT Kraken Z63 280mm AIO Liquid CPU Cooler
Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM008 3.5in Hard Drive
NZXT Aer RGB 2 Fan 120mm
Phanteks Revolt Pro Full Modular Gold 850W Power Supply
Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe SSD 1TB
MSI MAG Z490 Tomahawk Motherboard
Samsung 870 QVO 2.5in SATA SSD 2TB
NZXT H510 Elite RGB Mid Tower Case Matte Black/Black

I’ve only had the build for 8 months. Any suggestions on what to do from here? There’s absolutely no power whatsoever.

Check PSU first.

If warranty forbids opening case and testing parts, you are better off claiming warranty.

I just tried it again and it’s turned on now. Running perfect again. What the hell is going on. If it’s running good, does that mean it’s highly unlikely it’s the motherboard or CPU and more likely it’s a PSU problem?

I had a case that drove me nuts for many hours, Similar symptoms, Swapped several tested PSUs and hey would work intermittently, even changed main power cables with same results. finally traced it to a wall socket that had connector problems. All that high tech and ordinary wall socket had bad contacts !!! A have also seen bad power cables and extensions.

I don't know if this is related, but this error is coming up over and over in event viewer. Could it be related?

Probably result of intermittent power loss/failure while trying to BOOT.
Run CHKDSK /r and /f https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/chkdsk
In Command prompt (as administrator) run
sfc /scannow
If errors are detected, reboot any do it again (it should fix errors on first try.
After that run
dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /ResetBase
Same way.

Did the two CHKDSK commands. Got this, assuming it's normal or was it actually fixing something?

sfc /scannow got stuck on the 'verification part'. I'm trying that dism line now.

20% but says completed. I assume that means finished? What's with the 20%?

Start with both again, sfc /scannow should finish to 100% with errors or not. Don't forget to reboot each time.
Did you also run disk checks to finish?
Look in C: for folders called Check.000 /001 etc?

Ah yep, worked this time. No issues detected.

Also did a few PSU calculator tests and my build was getting only 600-650W so my PSU is definitely sufficient. Whether something is faulty is a different story though.
