I purchased a T7 shield external ssd and have noticed that the blue led it has is constantly blinking from the moment I plug it in until the moment I eject the drive.

Now, the default behavior for this drive should be a solid blue light unless something is being accessed on the drive. In my case, however, it'll just sit there and blink even when totally idle. This never ends, even in cases when I haven't actually written or read anything.

I have disabled scanning of the drive in my antivirus, but it still seems to be doing something. There doesn't actually seem to be much info online about the T7's led, which is making this a difficult issue to research. Additionally, I tried a different wire for the drive but it made no difference.

I use windows 10.

Boot to the bios does the light blink?

If not boot to safe mode does the light blink?

I've got Crucial drives myself so can't check LED operation.

A few thoughts.

1). Disable Windows Indexing
https://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-10/turn-off-indexing-in-windows-for-better-performance/

2). Maybe the drive is performing background housekeeping tasks
https://www.partitionwizard.com/news/ssd-wear-leveling.html

3). Download a trial copy of Hard Disk Sentinel and run a non-destructive surface read test
https://www.hdsentinel.com/help/en/61_surfacetest.html

4). Run CHKDSK
I dont believe it is search indexing (or atleast the thing I checked in control panel doesn't seem to indicate that it is).

I should've mentioned that I do not have the included drive management software from Samsung installed.

Alrighty, update for anyone who may experience this issue.

What ultimately fixed this for me was installing the Samsung Magician software that came included with the drive. This immediately resulted in normal functionality of the light.
