When I got my JD, the planet seemed to be shot. When I would run the
test mode, the motor would run but the planet would not move. I was
told by a few kind people here that i would need to get the gearbox
rebuilt. A kind member here, Steve Cascella offered to send me a
planet assembly to try out in my JD and if it worked, I could pay him.
Well I received it today and i wired it up a few minutes ago and the
motor worked but the planet did not turn. I am wondering, since the
"planet" shaft has wires comming from it, would thes wires have
anything to do with the planet not turning or does the motor drive the
planet to turn. I just dont want to for sure tell Steve that the
assembly he sent me is also not working if it could be the wires
comming from the shaft that the planet turns on. Although I thought
thoes wires were for the lights inside the planet.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I just happened to be under my JD fixing a few things. It would seem
to me that if the motor is running but not turning the deadworld or
gears, you may not have the motor shaft engaged to the gear box. Are
the gears turning when the motor is on? (they should be).

Check the locking pin that basically attaches the motor shaft up to the
gear box. Mine's been mickey moused with a long nail so I have to
find a better way of securing that.

I think the wires you're referring to are to the lights inside of the
planet. Another thing to do is do some homework and download the
manual from IPDB.com and look at the schematics.

Your problem is mechanical and should be easy to figure out.

The motor has a pin that has a tiny gear attached to it that turns a
couple gears. This is working. However, thoes gears I think should
then interlink to another gear that will then turn the planet. This is
not happening. I did see a larger gear that seems to be loose. I
think it has broken away from the shaft some time ago. So it looks
like this will need to be repaired. Any other thoughts?

Mike

Thanks for the advice Louis

Ohh yea, I forgot to mention, I had downloaded the stuff from IPDB
before hand but the diagrams did not seem to help much. Maybe I
overlooked something though.
