So I was cleaning my key caps on my CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate today as in was the new year and I forgot that I had to wrap my key caps in a towel and put them on the next day. I put my key caps on and some of the letters on my keyboard typed in pairs (eg I type "e" and "er" comes out). I immediately plugged it out after a minute or two and hair dried. I then put rice on it to absorb moisture. I then plugged it in 10 minutes later to still find the problem and then I plugged it out and filled the keyboard with rice. Is my keyboard still salvageable? the keyboard has passed CM's 1 year warranty. Screwed up way too early in the year. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Firstly, the "cover it in rice to absorb moisture" myth is about as valid as putting your phone in the microwave to charge it. Rice isn't a magic moisture magnet, it simply absorbs water if soaked in it, much like everything else that's organic. The best way of cleaning moisture off electronics is isopropyl alcohol.

If pressing either key of the combination (e.g. either "e" or "r") results in getting the pair of characters, then it's likely the keyboard's mainboard was eroded by the water. However, as per Coolermaster's website, the CM Quickfire Ultimate has 2 years of warranty, so you could still RMA it and hope Coolermaster just passes it as defective.

The rice worked. My keys don't double tap anymore.
