Hello... so you can get a pretty good idea of what I am trying to ask because of the title. So here is the thing, a friend has a laptop with Windows 7 from 2013 and it's starting to die and under-perform because of it's age, plus Windows 7 support is ending soon so my friend thought that now is a good time to get a new laptop. He went to an independent repair shop and asked for guidance on what kind of laptop he should get, the technician didn't get on much detail but he seemed pretty strict of how 'getting anything under £600 will not last long' now it's important to clear up that we are talking about lifespan here and not 'how futureproof its performance is'
So, in your opinion, how true is that? It seemed pretty vague to me that he needed such an expensive laptop considering he only needs to browse the web with it, and do some other light applications such as movie maker and other software that do light photo editing (cropping, resizing, conversion, filtering etc.) so nothing that needs a crazy computer and no crazy uses like AAA gaming, nothing of that sort. I smell something fishy here but I don't exactly often find myself in the laptop scene so I don't know how true what that technician warned them so strictly about is. Hence why I will ask this: Is it really necessary that he spends £600 on a laptop for the things he wants to use it for?
I am asking all this because independent repair shops in Greece tend to be quite ridiculous and so I want to verify with others here. Also if you can come up with a nice laptop for the above mentioned uses, you can mention it and I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you
