Tegra 4 vs Snapdragon 800

Been looking for a cheap gaming tablet to use on the go, but I cant choose between the tegra note 7 and the Kindle fire hdx. Which one is better for gaming? Tegra 4 or Snapdragon 800?

Tegra Note 7 for the simple fact that the GPU is very fast and the Kindle Fire HDX uses a proprietary version of Android.

Thanks for replying so fast But is the tegra 4 gpu actually faster than the adreno 330? I was thinking about rooting the kindle fire hdx if it happens to be faster... Just so I could get the play store... Ive been researching for a long time and have still been getting mixed results...

Okay cool. Does the opengles 3.0 matter? The tegra 4 only has opengles 2.0. The adreno 330 has opengles 3.0.

The CPU aspect of these SoCs are pretty similar. However, the GPU in the Snapdragon 800 (Adreno 330) is faster than the Tegra 4's GPU by about 10-15%. However, the HDX runs at 1080p and the Tegra note runs at 720p. Both tablets will not have a difference in performance since the Kindle has a faster GPU but runs at double the resolution.

The EVGA Tegra Note 7 does not look that good to me. While it has an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, it only has 1 measling GB of RAM. And the resolution is only 1280 x 800. And as far as I can tell, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 is by no means inferior to the Nvidia Tegra 4. The Kindle Fire HDX (7-Inch) has a Snapdragon 800 processor with Adreno 330 GPU (Not that it could have any other GPU lol), and it has a 1920x1200 resolution, which I see as superior. It has 2 GB of RAM. The only thing that really bugs me about the HDX, besides coming shipped with Fire OS, is that it lacks a microSD cards slot. BUT, it has a USB 2.0 port, which is also quite useful, and comes with up to 64 GB internal storage. So far, there has been no way to get AOSP on the device for a better Android experience, but there is a fair chance it will make it to the device sometime. In the mean time, it should be fairly easy to replace the launcher with Nova, if you dislike the stock launcher, and should not be too hard to get the Play Store on the device. As always, side-loading apps or downloading them off the internet should be simple enough. And of course, you can already root it and use a custom recovery. In short, the Fire HDX should be better for gaming and everything else.

I suggest waiting for a deal on the 32/64 GB models. Last one was Cyber Monday. There is a deal today for Green Monday but only for the 16 GB variant.

BTW to clarify, the Kindle Fire HDX doesn't have a normal-sized USB port. It just has a microUSB port like most other devices. However, microUSB flash drives exist, so you can still have expandability of storage (except when charging).

You should never consider higher screen resolution a detriment. There are resolution changer apps, most notably NOMone Resolution Changer, available in the Google Play Store. While so far, AOSP has not made it to the device owing to its locked bootloader, Google apps can still be sideloaded and rooting is still available.

The only reason I would take a tegra tablet is because it has better 3D games. As aforementioned by you and others, the Snapdragon 800 is as good if not better than the Tegra 4, Qualcomm should be ashamed though. I have seen games line darksiders or w/e they call it and street fighter 4, in addition to Street Fighter vs. Tekken.
