Temp sensor on 9800pro

I recently purchased a Sapphire 9800pro and when I removed the stock
heatsink to replace it with a VGA Silencer, I noticed that my card uses the
360 chip instead of the 350. It is my understanding that I can flash this
card to an XT, correct?? It uses the Samsung 2.8 memory (any good?) But
the real question I have is this: I read that the XT's have the ability to
show temps.....is this a function of the 360 core, and if so can I access it
without flashing my card to an XT. (I am a believer in the "ain't
broke-don't fix it) and will wait to flash my card for a time when it shows
it's age.... Unless I get bored of course :) (A famous line that has cost me
at least 2 motherboards and countless hours fixing a problem which I
manufactured)

Thanks!!!

Since nobody is answering this one, I'll give it a shot. This is my guess; I
don't know for sure.
The XTs have the ability to show temps, but some manufacturers had this
ability disabled (this much I'm sure of). I doubt you can enable it while
running it as a Pro. I think it needs the XT bios for this. You should be
able to flash it to an XT bios, but that doesn't mean you'll get the temps.
The ability to show temps may be a product of the 360 chip and another
circuit.

My 9800 Pro may also have the 360 chip. If you do decide to flash the bios,
I'd appreciate it if you'd share the experience here.

Obviously thinking that their heatsink and fan are adequate regardless
of case ambient. And if you believe that, I think that I can find a
very fine bridge to sell you too............

So your first warning of trouble, especially when overclocking should
be either freezes and lockups, if the silicon has not reptured itself
first in the case of parts having excellent initial timing margins.

Actually, I think it was just a cost-cutting measure.

My memory of this is coming back now that I'm dwelling on it a bit. As I
recall, the 9600XT has an on-die thermal diode, but the board has to be
wired to use it and some manufacturers didn't do this. Also, I believe, the
9800XT does not have an on-die thermal diode, but instead has an on-board
thermal sensor chip (LM63, probably) but it also was not included by some
manufacturers. Because of complaints, some of these manufacturers are now
including these in 96's and 98's. Regardless, a 9800 Pro with an R360 core
will not be wired the same as a 9800XT and doesn't have a thermal sensor
chip.

So, the answer to the original post would be "No.".
