I'm getting ready to place my newegg order. I'm decided to get Thermaltake Armor Series VA8000BWS for a case. The other case I was looking at had an LCD temperature display. Since this case doesn't have one, is a temp display necessary? or if it is wise to have one just in case, what is a good one? I've been looking around newegg, and most of them have really bad reviews. I won't be doing any overclocking.

I have an Antec P160 which has one. They are neat, but not highly useful since you can get software that does the same thing.

If you want a temperature display you might as well get something that has more functions...

I have the enermax 17 in 1 card reader w/ 2 fan controllers and temperature display.

I agree with Shadowduck. My case came with two temps displayed, but they aren't that easy to see, so get ignored. I also have software displays that put the temps right on the screen and are more useful when I'm experimenting with overclocking. Since you say you won't do any overclocking, that reduces the displays to being merely an expensive part that doesn't do any real good, other than being able to say that you have it. I'd spend my money elsewhere, on stuff that had real value.

You probably don't need a temperature display, especailly if your not doing any OC'ing. If you want it just to look cool, then by all means get one, if your willing to pay the 30 bucks or so for one and then reattach all your heatsinks.

Otherwise, spend your money on something useful, like a giant rubber ducky!

Well, I just keep reading about people saying that their systems are running hot or cool. Didn't know if that was something that was a necessary thing to get. My current system is in it's 5th year of use and it is far from needing anything of the sort. This is my first gaming rig and first build. So I'm still learning. Thanks for all the help.

Actually what the others have said is true, I use software to keep track of my cpu, gpu and hdd's. I use the temperature sensors on that multfunction panel to track the temperature of my reservoir and radiator in my water cooling loop.

My case came with one. Do you place the sensor on the cpu and then place the heatsink on?

You don't put the sensor between the heatsink and cpu, you put it on the heatsink beside the cpu (usually the heatsink is much larger than the cpu) so there should be lots of space to attach it
