I just got 2 4TB WD red drives that I am going to run in RAID 1 on a Zyxel NSA320. I made the mistake of installing them before testing them and I am having some issues.

Before I fill these monsters and clear the source drives for resuse, I want to test them and make sure there isn't going to be a problem with them.

Can anyone suggest some good ways to test these prior to installation? (I am going to remove the data currently on the).

I appreciate any suggestions!

Test them with the manufacturer's free diagnostic software. If you can test them as secondary drives on a Windows PC you can use WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows: http://support.wd.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810&sid=3&lang=en

Otherwise, if you can't test them in a Windows environment you'll need to use the DOS bootable CD version. The link for the CD Image file is here: http://www.smartestcomputing.us.com/topic/63494-looking-for-western-digital-data-lifeguard-iso/
