Testing out CPU/Motherboard, do I need to install stock cooler?

Hello all,

First time builder here, I was recommended to test out my motherboard/cpu on my monitor before installing it inside my case.

My question is, for this test, do I need to install the stock cooler for just a test? I will not be using the stock cooler (I am using a aftermarket cooler) but I watched a video where they installed the stock cooler just to see if the cpu/motherboard worked.

My concern is the thermal paste residue that will be left on the CPU after testing (paste coming off the stock cooler). I know it is simple to clean off the paste but being my first time and all, I would prefer not to drop tiny amounts of liquids (liquid to clean off thermal paste, and I am taking off the stock cooler because I will be using a aftermarket cooler) on my cpu and accidentally "mess" up the CPU area of my motherboard.

thanks!

I see, I am just really worried and do not want to ruin anything, guess I will be super careful when cleaning, don't want to fry my CPU lol. thanks!
