testing power on motherboard

I've just bought a brand new motherboard and this is its maiden flight.
So, right now I've been turning the motherboard on and then after about 4 seconds when I see that all fans and processor are properly powered up, turning it off again to test cable connectivity of the cables plugged to the motherboard. The motherboard is not connected to any harddisk yet, just to USB (which only contains memtest86), keyboard and monitor. I've done this about three or four times. I assume this won't damage the motherboard? unlike if you improperly shut down windows? I'm turning on and off the motherboard using the power button in the chassis. Thanks

No, no harm will come of using the power button to start and stop the system, if that is what you are asking. But it seems you are a bit overly meticulous with your pre-testing.

yeah, cause the PSU didn't come with the power cord, so I'm using another power cord from my LCD TV. I wonder what's the right cable spec for my PSu Seasonic SS500ET? or any power cord is fine (to connect my PSU to the wall). thanks

I'm not in USA, and the voltage in my local power grid is 220V. Does this mean I need a different spec for the cable? thanks

Ah! Yes, you will need to find one that is designed for your PSU's supply voltage. If you are in GB or Europe, I believe you folks refer to them as Kettle Leads.
