Text Messaging without cellular account

Have an Android 4.1.1 that is just for WiFi access. Would want to send and receive text messages only through WiFi. Is there a way to first, get a wifi text address and use it this way? Guidance sought.

You would either need to do as iknowhowtofixit says or have a phone number from a cell provider or a google voice number.

Alternatively you could use apps for texting (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Kik, etc), the recipients will need to have those applications as well.
