I haven't gotten my new system yet so I'm wondering if I should either get a single 9800GX2 or a pair of 8800GTS. I'm not getting it for another month or so, so I think that the driver issues will be solved. Just wondering what ur oppinion.

Well sorry but tests show that that opinion is indeed wrong. Clock em same and when drivers are alrite for that game GX2 comes out ontop.

GX2 though of c. hasn't got 100% working drivers yet.

my overclocked GTS rapes GX2, and i only have one of them. I really hope they can get some drivers that improves the GX2 though, I know it can do much better....

*Pushes Beurling into the ATI fanboy corner* your in the wrong place

oh why couldn't they work on the drivers :pt1cable:.

Clock them the same? You do know that you can easily OC an 8800GTS over that right? Also the 9800GX2 is way overpriced.

EVGA 512-P3-N841-A3 GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB is $259.99 from newegg so 520$ in SLI

the GX2 is only 80$ more and has the possibility to be better once all the bugs are fixed. Not to mention those without SLI boards can get the performance of SLI from a single card.

True it is a little overpriced, but it has great potential in the near future. I've also been debating on whether i should go with dual 8800GTS or 1 GX2 and hope the bug's get fixed lol.

Again, read some updated benches. At 1920x1200, it is completely destroyed by the GX2 in every way.

And beat by it in almost all other resolutions.

yea i have read plenty, and as it stands now the SLI 8800GTS is better, but maybe thats because it's a fully developed product.. The GX2 has bugs and the drivers aren't perfect. These are things that i take to mind, and are giving me trouble when deciding which to pick. As it stands now I'm leaning toward the dual 8800's, because even though the performance of the GX2 is close to the SLI setup the dual cards will have better performance over clocked and have better cooling.

Urgent

I can get someone to bring me a card home from the states....

Its between....you guessed it 8800gts sli/9800gx2....

I can get these two 8800gts's for €320

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127325

Or any of the $599/ €380 9800gx2...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=9800gx2

Now I am going to overclock the $hit of these cards so what is the best option for an overclocker?

2 x 8800gts's overclocked to the hills vs 9800gx2 overclocked to the max, whats faster?

Hatman can you please post links of the 9800gx2 beating the Sli 8800gts's?

I will be playing @ 1680 by 1050 for now and in 2 months 1900 by 1200...

Specs

Q6700 @ 3.20ghz ( will go higher)
2gb Ram
Vista Home Premium

Well lets look at a down sample.
3870 vs 3870X2.

The 3870X2 offers slightly better performance then 2 3870's the clock is higher at stock and cooling is much more efficient. Still there's not much difference apart from the 3870X2 is cheaper.

Now the 9800X2, the cooling is less efficient the clock is set lower because of this. If you can grab 2 8800GTS's for 80$ cheaper then a 9800GX2 then theres no competition there. Better cooling, better overclockability better value. However i bet if you run the 9800X2 at 100% fan the cooling won't be an issue (however your ear drums might be) so if your only overclocking for the sake of 3Dmark or benchmarks then there isn't much competition between 2 8800GTS vs 9800X2 OC apart from your ear drums suffering.

Im confused lol....

Are the 8800gts in Sli not that good at overclocking?

Would the 9800gx2 give better performance than the 8800gts after overclocking?

What would be the difference in power consumption between the 9800gx2 and 8800gts?

Sorry for all the questions...

I think the power goes to the X2. The ocing goes to the slied GTS's. Any advantage the X2 has over the GTS setup clock for clock, is taken away by the ability to be outdone by a superior oc of the GTS. And, youll be getting all that heat out of your case , plus youll save a few $

8800GT SLI is better than 9800GX2 & 8800GTS SLI - if you look into price : performance. You can get 2x8800GT for $350 in total and its performance will be at a very very slim difference between the 2x8800GTS & 9800GX2 (-/+ 5%?). It will also cost about $250 cheaper than the 9800GTX and about $100-150 cheaper than the the 2x8800GTS.

8800GT SLI is the best bang for buck. $350...can't take you any further than that.

I've only got a 3D Mark 06 score to use as a comparison, and they're 8800GT512s SLIed, not GTS512, but they get around 14100+. All default settings for 3D Mark. The GTs are OC a smidgen.

Main test results
3DMark Score 14201 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 6265
SM 3.0 Score 7902
CPU Score 2676 (E6750 at 3GHz)

2 - Firefly Forest 52.59 FPS

CPU1 - Red Valley 0.84 FPS
CPU2 - Red Valley 1.36 FPS

2 - Deep Freeze (SM 3.0) 67.16 FPS

I'd expect the 9800GX2 to get more than this?
