Hey guys, I have an older computer, E-machine model EL1852G-52W, (slim build) being as such it has a hard time keeping up with the games I like to play. What I would like to know is, what can I do to upgrade my computers performance? What can I do in terms of ram, or a better CPU? I do have installed right now a Nvidia GeForce GT730 GPU, and am looking into a better power supply as well, I realize I am probably better off getting another computer, but it isn't in the cards right now, can you help a guy out? I can spend between 300-$500.

Solution
The intel stock coolers, arent as bad, but I hear AMD's are loud. It is most likely due to AMD chips being hotter thn intels. If you have the money, you can get a locked i5, if your on a budget get an fx 8320 with a 760g chipset.

Thanks a lot Jeff! With a rig like that, do you suppose I would be able to play games such as Elder Scrolls online fairly well? Forgive me, I've never built a computer before so that would be my first, and I'm not sure what to expect really.

Ditch the PC and buy a Console for that money. Honestly, you will get more BANG for the BUCK. PCs are PAY TO PLAY, you need to spend more money on a PC then you do on a Console to get the same performance level. For example a PS4 can play 1080p 60FPS High settings of BF Hardline, the one suggested wouldn't be able to do more then 30s, and probably have to be on medium to low graphically.

The cheapest upgrade beside memory would be your GPU. a GTX 750ti would need no major PSU upgrade and it would 50%+ improvement over the video card you have.

If I read the correct specs, then you are capped a 4GB ram.

My suggestion, save up a bit for a minimum build (with greater upgrade potentenial) for example

CPU i3
RAM 8GB
MOBO (with possible upgrade to i7) a LGA 1150 is still worth it
HDD 500GB to 1TB (or SSD of 120GB so make it ultra snappy)

or see below

if you have a micro center near you, it will certainly shave off a few more dollars of it.

Best luck

This build will definitely play elders scroll online. Your budget is the only concern. The build cost close to $500 your max budget, however the os, keyboard, monitor and wifi card are all not included.

Thanks got some things to think about in that case, I have a build here, if you have a minute to two to look over it, could you give me your thoughts? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zDPTVn

hmm seems a little off, you have a good cpu and mobo, but no cooler. It looks like you want to oc, but you can't really do that with a stock cooler.

I'm not terribly concerned with over clocking, I'm not looking to do much more than gaming with the rig, the CPU I picked in the build comes with a stock cooler. Would that be enough, or would you still suggest something a little more?

Excellent idea for the short term, I like it, I was just thinking of the future, I want to be able to add more ram eventually, but i'll definitely look into adding a good cooler for my set up thanks for all of your help!
