Hello,

This problem all began a few days ago. I turned on my PC and it showed up with the message: "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." I could not find my HDD in the boot priorities in my Gigabyte BIOS UEFI. I tested my SATA cables with a brand new HDD and my PC could not identify it either. I used a new SATA cable as well, to no avail. I realized that I needed to create a Windows 10 bootable USB (using rufus) to somehow repair my HDD. After resetting the priorities in BIOS to USB, and plugging in the ISO formatted USB, the Windows 10 installation was able to appear (yay). I clicked repair, then refresh, then keep all files, but it said: "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I attempted to use command prompt given by the installation media, and to use diskpart (from forums and stuff). After selecting/listing Disk 0, I tried listing the partitions. On all the users with this problem that I found online, everyone had Partitions 1,2,3,4. I only had Partition 1 with Primary labeled and 16GB, the storage size of my USB. This was the same for Disk 0.

I am very much tired of having to dig so deep just to fix such a simple problem.

Please and thank you,

Something interesting happened when I tried to update my GA-X79-UP4 (rev 1.0) to BIOS F5. When I inserted the USB with the new update, my BIOS was finally able to detect my HDD and automatically set it to boot priority 1. I rebooted but it comes up with a new message: "Remove disk or other media. Press any key to restart." So I remove my USB and its back to the original message: "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." It's the same loop.

I will still try to update my BIOS and see if I can find the secure boot option. As of my current BIOS version, it is not present.
