Hello. i have currently i7 8700 installed in my pc. also i am currently using 2 8gb sticks of hyperX 2666 memory. i was just wondering if i can get faster memory so i looked in cpu description and it is saying recommended is 2666. is it just a recommended and i still can upgrade it for faster RAM? also if yes what is the fastest speed my cpu can handle. cpu is paired with
ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-H GAMING - supports up to 4 266 MHz memory speed

thanks

also
Tried XMP stuff..i i couldnt get it much higher. if i set it too high my pc was crashing

You can upgrade with faster memory. Your sweet spot would be 3200Mhz for i7 8700. It wouldn't make sense go over that unless you absolutely want the best and have money to burn!
so u are saying i can go even for faster than 3200 right. i was considering 3600 because i have money now and i want to upgrade it. upgrading 2666 to 3200 isnt worth for me i guess for now and also for the future. what is the most likely performance increase in % with 3600Mhz memory.
i also want to upgrade my system in the future for i9 so i also want to get faster ram at some point so i dont care if it is now or then. it would be even better to buy it now when i have money and i9 1-2 years later because it is way more expensive. i just want to know if my my system is going to run with 3600 memory stable. if i am correct system will set it to 2666 bcause of my cpu and i will need to use XMP profile for 3600 speeed...am i right?

You can go as high as the motherboard will support, in terms of the speed of your RAM.

However, the question you have to face is, "Is it worth it?" The I7 8700 was designed to work in sync with DDR4 2666. As was already mentioned by Gam3R01, DDR4 3200 is less than 1% faster in real terms than DDR4 2666 with the I7 8700 (Per Techpowerup.com).

Personally, I would go for whatever is better priced. Since DDR4 3200 is more mainstream, I would expect better prices for that, whereas DDDR4 2666 is less mainstream.
