You put my name on the wrong quote. I did not write that.

This is what I wrote:
I think the reason people choose Nvidia is a mix of getting burned by bad drivers in the past and Nvidia offering features AMD doesn't have, like PhysX. Even if those features aren't important, a lot of people feel more comfortable with it, or don't even know how unimportant it is.

I wonder why so many people are hating on this card. I agree that they could have done more and come up with new architecture. With the companies selling a lot less than they used to, AMD and Nvidia slowed down R&D to stay more profitable. This is completely acceptable, especially because there aren't a ton of games, or gamers, requiring a lot more power than what the current gen GPUs pump out.

I love this card and bought one for a few reasons. I've always purchased AMD but wanted to try something new. I had my eye on the GTX670 and 680 for a while and was ready to pull the trigger. I thought I'd wait to see what they did with the 770. They priced a card faster than the 680 for only $400. That right there is extremely rewarding for a gamer looking for great performance without Titan prices. I agree the AMD 7970GHZ offers better value in many cases, but it's not the FPS winner in most recent benchmarks when comparing to the 770. Factor in price, driver support, and thermals, and the GTX 770 offers an excellent value.

I will be doing an unboxing video later today when mine arrives.

Ah no. I went through 2 CF setup with XFX and Sapphire GHz Editions and they all suffered similar problems. So maybe you can't see them but it is pretty obvious to some of us.

[citation][nom]CaptainTom[/nom]Some people think this is meh, some think it is great, but the answer is really in-between.-This should force the 7970's down a little.-This should have been about 10% stronger with its crazy high clocks.Bottom line: AMD really won't care much because of their bundles. Look at the 7850 prices. They really haven't budged more than $10, and they are still selling like hotcakes![/citation]
Nope. It's still meh.
You know why? because its not competing against the HD7970, it'll compete against the HD8950 when it comes out.
The GTX 670 was miles better than the GTX 580 when it was released for 400$. Could u say the same when comparing the GTX 770 to the GTX 680?
No, You can't, because its the same card. So the price is down by about 50$. That's nice, but it seems like everyone here forgot that when you release a new card series it's supposed to improve on more than just the price...

First part I agree FOR NOW...

But think on this : This is gotta last competitively for a year or more. AMD now has freeroam to adjust clocks as they want on upcoming cards and EVERY GCN card out so far has room for even more clockrates AND they are skipping a generation(alleged).
So while the price is amazing now, in my opinion. I just can't see Nvidia keeping the pricing stack anyway NEAR(even considering they dont want or care for a price war) where they are now when ACTUAL next gen cards release.
If they don't bother to drop prices after HD8xxx/HD9xxx releases, then neither will AMD. This is gonna kill competition...

I totally understand where you're coming from. I know down the road better cars will come out, they always do. Nvidia made same very minor changes to the 700 series so far so it lets them continue to focus on the next gen card to combat AMD. All I'm saying is that faster performance for a price drop satisfies my needs for now. I needed a new card this month and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Cards get better every year. AMD isn't releasing the new line this month so NVidia invested a smaller sum of money to better compete with AMD in the meantime. It's simple business and I think they made a smart decision.

Exactly, the only thing that the 770 improves is the memory clock due to the new memory controller. The 680s can already be purchased with factor overclocks at the same frequencies as the core clock and have the same overclock potential.

I guess there is that marginal performance boost due to the higher memory bandwidth...

You mean like Jaden Smith?

I was wondering when will the 8950 come out? I heard AMD is having and emergency partner meeting to to see how they are going to respond to the 700 series. It may be December until there is a 8950 if ever, and knowing AMD another 3 months until the drivers for them show up, 6 months for CF drivers. Nvidia has free space until near the end of the year. Then they have the Maxwell coming next, after they see how AMD responds. Remember they held back the Titan because of the performance they saw in the 7000 series. Don't forget Nvidia is in the Green and AMD is in the Red, just like their logos, lol.

Yeah smart for them thanks to a nice healthy profit. Bad for AMD and more importantly, the industry, I am sitting here hoping the new GCNs(or whatever may come) are not gonna be so great, just to keep the industry stable.

LOL actually, they held back cuz of chip supply, that GK110 is no joke to manufacture. As i have said a million times over.

These 700 series cards are nice, but they're not blow-AMD-away nice. AMD might lower prices a tad in the short term as a response to Nvidia's new cards, but there's still a healthy competition here.

And just in case you're worried, Intel will never allow AMD to go out of business. 😉

I wouldn't say no to a $170 GTX 750Ti with the power of an overclocked 660. Though I really wonder what's going to happen with the under-$200 stack, since prices were recently dropped and they have a new card in there, too. Will they even release a GTX 760 and 750Ti?

Let's see, this is pretty simple . . . the GTX 770 is considerably faster than the GTX 680 but costs about what a mid-range GTX 670 costs.

It really is a no-brainer for anyone who isn't an AMD fanboy.

I just plunked down $419 for an EVGA GTX 770SC with free backplate, 3DMark, and Primal Carnage. I won't be looking back in regret, guaranteed.

Reviews suggest that it performs within margin of error of the HD 7970 at 2560x1600...

Ok my GTX680 has been at 1275Core and 7GHzRam for over a year now, Whats the bragging about the GTX770 all about? Its the same damn card! same GK104 same damn ram, just a different board and name! tomuch damn hype

Compared to the GTX 680, it's a no-brainer. Compared to the 7970, not so much. You get the same or slightly more performance with the 7970, at least when overclocked, and it costs less.

Of course, SLI is another matter. And the 770 uses less power, which is an advantage in small form factor systems. There are also the general Nvidia perks (PhysX and so on). So the 770 isn't a bad buy at all, but for pure gaming performance with a single card, the 7970 still seems a little better.

If the GTX 760 Ti is going to be to the GTX 770 what the GTX 670 was to the GTX 680, then that could change things.

What benchmarks are you looking at? They perform nearly the same. NVidia uses SLI which performs much better than Crossfire right now, and it consumes less power. AMD is slightly less but comes with a killer game bundle. They both offer their own value points. So for those telling people this is pointless and the 7970 is better are really short-sighted. If you need Cuda or Physx you have no choice. If you want to bitmine (which is now pointless) then AMD absolutely slaughters NVidia, as with heavy compute tasks. I just went from a 7950 OC'd to a GTX 770 and the driver stability and performance alone makes the computer a totally different animal. I cannot express enough how much driver support and stability are important.

In the Toms Hardware Review:

GTX 770 Wins:
Bioshock Infinite
Borderlands 2
Crysis 3
Far Cry 3

HD 7970 Wins:
BF3
Hitman Absolution
Skyrim
Tomb Raider

All of these differences were typically less than 10% apart. In some cases it was only 1 FPS. Both are kick-ass GPUs.

While I would not buy a HD7970 today for bitmining, I believe that it remains worthwhile to use the one I already have for that purpose; it's just a matter of how long though, probably not more than two months. If it hasn't paid for itself by then, it will still have applied a 70%-80% discount to its original price. Too bad I didn't buy it last year...

i know that but it wasn't me that making such decision. it was some other in another forum discussion why he choose nvidia in the first place. bias or not it is the fact that really happen out there. there are really people out there making their purchase based on that belief.

Spreading the same rhetoric doesn't help these ignorant souls realize their error either. I attempt to point out fallacies whenever I see them. However, my use of satire often gets in the way this since most individuals can't seem to recognize sarcasm or irony when they see it :)
