Ok, so how many people here buy weapons and armour, not based on their
stats but based on how your character looks wearing them?

I'm a total stat whore, but others in my guild buy stuff because it
matches their characters eyes, or goes well with "that" pair of shoes
they got for a bargain price at the AH last week.

I thought it would be hard to do so. I mean, you can't really do a AH
fitting room to see how you would look with the prospecting item prior
making a buyout. And only after the purchase, by then, it is 9 out 10
it will be "darn, didn't look as well as I expected; can I get a return
on it".

I will take a massive upgrade.

I will NOT take a small upgrade if it makes me look stupid.

Case in point: I looted a pair of Jade Sabaton boots that
were a small upgrade from my Nightshade boots in
armor, and since they were Monkey, I was happy. When
I put them on, half my pants disappeared and I was running
around barefoot, with a slight increase in Armor/Health.

Barefoot? I'm a Gnome, not some freaking Halfling. I put
my old boots back on and vendored the new ones.

If they'd just been green boots that clashed with my suit,
I'd have dealt with it...barefoot diaper boy is NOT how
I want to see myself, though...

guilty as charged. Till the day i have the entire Shadowcraft set, I'm
going with what looks good.

Xanex....UndeadRogueazon, one time I had matching Warlock gear on my rogue.
It was ...different.

Me, sorta. Currently carrying around a Kobold Mining Shovel (1.3 dps 2h
mace) on my lvl 58 druid just because it looks so appropriate to the
rest of his shitkicker leathers(complete with floppy hat). I'm thinking
about getting it enchanted just to mess with people's heads. Of course,
when I plan to actually fight I equip my Magus Staff of the Eagle, but
till I leave town it's good for a laugh. I can almost hear the
"Inspect" windows opening left and right when I go to the bank/AH!

Also put together a STR/STA set of gear (Warbear Harness/Woolies, among
other things) and a Painbringer of the Gorilla that I sometimes wear
when I'm going solo and feral. I look much more badass than those
Lightforge Paladins, with all the straps, bare skin, and spikes on my
shoulders/weapon. Form AND function all in one!

I do pay attention to stats, primarily for INT(enough mana to feed the
12 tribe of Israel right now), but I'm willing to sacrifice a few
points for looks. Right now, I have the Wildheart Kilt but I don't like
the look of it, so I bank it most of the time till I happen to get a
few more pieces.

Currently collecting cool looking feathered stuff. Using the Wardrobe mod I
can quickly swap to my proper stat kit when needed, yet still look natty
'round town'. I'm more style over substance now, as I got bored around lvl

I couldn't get Firey Weapon enchant on my Big Iron Fishing
Pole. Had the materials and a willing enchanter, but he kept
getting a "cannot enchant" message.

In some ways, I do too.

A level 60 undead mage on our server is also called "the white mage" for
obvious reasons :)

I had a dobei hat (the one that looks like a gardener hippy hat) on my
herbalist tauren druid. Just recently I changed to the totem head looking
Big Voodoo Mask because I was tired of looking for pants with pot leaves on
them to go with my free love outfit. back then I figured who would gank a
stoned peacenick?

Sentinels boots of the owl. excellent druid stats (well from 32 anyway) but
look like a rainbow coloured fruit salad explosion on your feet... The day I
bought big voodoo robe and covered up those monstrosities was a happy day
for me.

What are stats? :)
My priest has been in Venomshroud for the past 6-7 levels because she looks
cool and it matches the Illusionary Rod she still uses. The hit on intellect
is noticeable.
My young Warrior is in Hulking gear because it looks "warrior-like".

In difficult instances/quests I may change into "work clothes" but for
normal questing/grinding I make do... and look decent.

cheers,
Stu.

I've just spent 8g for a wolfshead (druid only, +10 spirit, +5 rage /
+ 20 energy when shifting) that's not really better than my current
helmet (+17int / +6spi), because it looks awesome. And I guess I'll
keep it until I can get my hands on embrace of the lycan 🙂

Since I installed the wardrobe addon yesterday, it doesn't really
matter anyway. I'm currently trying to get 2 item sets: One for healing
only, and one for freestyle (stamina/armor focused).

The only time I can remember I ditched a good item because it looked
awful was this cloth cap I received from a quest in tarren mill. That
item just looked too silly on a tauren 😱)

Well, the number of female NE wearing moonglow vests are certainly
higher than expected 😉

And the first time my Troll Hunter was able to wear headgear, he was
offered... a headscarf?? He went from cool, mohawked uber-punk to the
punk's granny in two seconds flat.

....and then back again, as the hat was buried in the very back of the
cupboard, only to be worn in far, far distant lands where no-one would
be watching (no-one who would be alive in 5 minutes, anyway)...

A stat geek myself, but I sure love the effetc on that speedsteel rapier.
In my eyes the trail it leaves behind looks much better that any glow
you can get for your weapons.

Gnomes don't worry about looking good.

We ALWAYS look good. How good is simply a matter
of style...

No, but it would be vivophilia if you were into live bodies, which for an
undead is an unspeakable abnormality.

Yes, but now he has a cool flying helmet :)

Pity he isn't an engineer, it would look even better with goggles 😉
