This is the first time I am building a pc and I thought I did everything right but when I try and power the pic on the fans and stuff work but nothing happens on the monitor. Can anyone help?

Have you connected the monitor to the GPU and not the motherboard?

If you are using a GPU, you need to first connect the monitor directly to your motherboard on startup. The preset is going to use the basic onboard graphics until you select the proper GPU settings. With just one GPU, make sure it is in the first PCIe slot and you have selected x16 in the bios (also, with a newer PC, make sure you have also properlyselected if it is a 2nd Gen, or 3rd Gen card: such as DDR3-DDR5. Some motherboards, like my Asus VI, need this information).

It could also be something as simple as:

1.) Source/input on your monitor is incorrect, and set to another source
2.) You have not provided sufficient power to your GPU (see manual) this should cause your
Motherboard to beep obnoxiously.
3.) Your computer is waiting for the startup CD. Without the resolution properly set, it can be difficult to see the GRUB command prompt on the screen, and your setup may be ok.

If this does not solve the issue, please provide more details on the issue.
