[citation][nom]acerace[/nom]DA. It's not Google who release updates to your phones, it's the manufacturer. Blame them for the slow updates.[/citation]
Well, maybe Google shouldn't have made it so hard for manufacturers to tweak the OS...

Awesome, another device to play Angry Birds on!

Although I have to say I do like Android far better than iOS and it's great to see that Google is finally going to have a real device that's capable of matching the iPad.

This is the 3rd review I read about this device, and all are very positive ones.

I've been waiting some time for an all around, affordable tablet, my only question is: how good is the nexus 7 for ebook reading?

Cheers

Nexus 7 is great for Ebook reading, Have had mine for over a week now and it does everything almost perfectly (especially if you root it and slap a ROM on there :)). an E-Ink reader is still the best for reading anywhere, but I havent had much of an issue with this screen and reading all the places I read. Plus the Tegra 3 gaming and just overall speed of this thing is amazing. I sold my original Transformer 10" for one of these and I dont regret it one bit, I use it constantly for everything :)

If you really want more storage space get an OTG cable and Stickmount (requires root) and you can plug in just about any size USB stick for more space, people have already got movies playing off of that :)

So Google, like Microsoft is coming out with hardware an killing off thier OEM partners? They just killed the sales of everyone else who makes a 7 inch Android tablet.

[citation][nom]DSpider[/nom]Better my a*s. I bought an iPod touch 2G 16GB a few months after it was released and a year and a half later (2010) they dropped support with iOS 4.2.1. It pissed me off so much I swore that I will never buy another Apple product again. Also, on a hardware level, people who "upgraded" from the iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S. And don't forget that the iPod touch 4G remained absolutely the same."Updates are the one thing Apple does better"... Yeah, right. Give me a break.[/citation]

You need to give credit where it's due - the iPad one will work with iOS 6 when it's released in September - No three year old Android tablet has software updates currently. Even if not all the features work on the 1G iPad, it's still updated software without having to root the phone.

My friend's Galaxy from last year isn't getting the updated software unless he roots it - vs my other friend's Iphone 3GS.

Blame google or the manufacturers is irrelevant. The system needs to be fixed. Imagine if your computer wouldn't be updatable to the most recent software.

Google needs to make it a requirement instead of letting the manufacturers dictate this - Soon HP and Dell will tell you that you can't update to Windows 8.

The Nexus 7 should have included support for external displays. A micro-HDMI port would have been nice, but at least provide MHL over the USB port.

For the new iPad on the battery life test page, is that to an absoloute complete charge? There was a big hoopla a while back because it indicated a full charge while it still had hours of charging left to go for that last 10%.

I think the same thing about hard drives that use to be abailable for $50.00. I think the HD manufacturers are just price gouging the public.

No SD card slot = FAIL.

Close, but no cigar Google / Asus. I will be waiting for the next model I'm sure will be shortly forthcoming when you realize you left out the most BASIC feature: A freaking CARD SLOT.

Many folks find fault with the fact that Google's Nexus 7 lacks a rear-facing camera, but I think that's a completely unnecessary feature on a tablet. If I need to take a snapshot, I reach for a smartphone.
So i have my tablet and want to take a picture to upload to facebook and i cant? i grab my phone, take the picture, use bluetooth (if it has it) transfer to the tablet and then upload it.

good thing you think is completely unnecessary! whats next? no GPS becuase you can use the one in your smartphone...

I have had my N7-16GB for almost a week, I have two cases for it, but like the fake leather one from a third party better than googles because it has a magnetic sleep/close feature. The screen is amazing for a reader/movie device, and battery life is great.

I also have the new iPad, and have not even turned it on since receiving this tablet.

Sorry, all ya Apple Haters but just like the Kindle Fire was the "it" device for about a month until the iPad 3 was launched, when the iPad mini is anounced this device will fall by the wayside. It (the iPad mini) will likely list at $250 have hundreds of thousands of apps available at launch, better quality (a Retina display and much better cameras) and far better quality control.
Other tidbits. Android JellyBean is a subpar OS compared to the iOS (especially 6.0 which will work on all the iDevices back to the 3GS and the first iPad. That is unless you are a hacker then you love any Android flavor. If you are a techie that still uses DOS commands, Ubuntu or Linux, you probably love Android. The other 95% of us just want an OS that works without hours of training or hiccups. Google (Asus) is selling this product at a loss to reclaim Android from the Kindle and the product is really you or that is your information to add to all the other information Google collects about you. How well is the device going to run when you have to put anti-virus software on it? A 1.2 megapixel front facing camera. Are you kidding? No sd slot. (Yes the iPhone and iPad have one, it is a $10-15 adapter), I just downloaded 600 photos (full sized) from my Nikon dSLR to iPhoto app ($10 on the app store). Try doing that on you Nexus or even your $500 cheapo laptop. Consider this, the iPad 3 accounted for 22% of all computer sold in the world last year. no wonder Dell and HP are getting out of the PC business (this and the whole Win8 debacle that is coming)
To Sonic, I have a a very fast modded HP dv7t quad, W7 Pro with a Kingston SSD (7.8 on the WEI) and I still grab my iPad half the time. That is when I can get it out of my 10 year old son's hands. There is the face of the future of computing.
The millenials. In 10 years they will all be using a wearable device that utilizes a head's up display and voice recognition, but I digress....
I could go on but why don't you just "Google" Forbes, "Why An IPad Mini will crush Google's Nexus 7." As a very well respected business magazine, I think they understand thinks a bit better than anyone who wastes enough time to write this long of a post 😉

If what you want is a small mini game pad this might be nice. but if you want to watch movies or use skype online, I dont think the screen is large enough. My mother was in a REHAB/old folks home and we used skype to talk to my son six or seven states away and we were glad we could talk to him on the larger screen on the 10 inch ASUS tablet.

[citation][nom]EzioAs[/nom]... The only issue I heard was that the speakers are quite terrible although I didn't see that mentioned in this review[/citation]

Actually the speakers are more than adequate, and I plugged in my 70$ Klipsch earbuds and the sound reproduction on signal is great as well.

[citation][nom]jtt283[/nom]Is the battery user-replaceable? I gather there's no memory card slot, but what, if any, I/O ports are provided? Bluetooth? If any of this was covered in the videos, feel free to comment but hold the thumbdowns please; those are blocked at work. Thanks.[/citation]

The specs for the tablet can be found on Google Play, but the bluetooth works great, especially in conjunction with a mobile phone. The entire tablet is one piece; I don't think users should be opening devices for any reason concerning a battery.

[citation][nom]callmesissi[/nom]So i have my tablet and want to take a picture to upload to facebook and i cant? i grab my phone, take the picture, use bluetooth (if it has it) transfer to the tablet and then upload it.good thing you think is completely unnecessary! whats next? no GPS becuase you can use the one in your smartphone...[/citation]

The tablet is for media consumption. You will be more comfortable looking at photos and watching media on the tablet than the phone. If you already have your phone on you, (puhhhh-lease, if you're carrying around a tablet, you'll be carrying your phone too) yes you take a picture with your phone, use its wonderful internet connection, and upload it. Then see what it looks like on your tablet if you wish. Or not.

Any update on the hardware hickups?

I'd like to know if I should wait until the second wave of units to ship before ordering one, or if the bugs are here to stay and I just have to hope mine doesn't come with a faulty screen. I know they have a RMA service going on, but I'm really not sure how to go about that, so I'd rather just get one that works.
