The time is wrong on my computer and it's creating SSL errors

I just built a new computer and the time was way off so I went in and manually adjusted it and now it's causing SSL certificate errors whenever I try to access a webpage that's SSL protected. I don't understand what the problem is and why my time was wrong in the first place. My computer is connected to the internet. I tried having the computer automatically update the time but it returns an error. I don't think it could be a dead CMOS battery could it? Everything in my system is brand new. Anyone have any helpful advice?

I checked the time in my bios, it is the same as it is in windows and it is also correct and I'm still getting the SSL error : (
