The Combat Mission series, at least the first three versions. God knows how many hundreds of hours were spent by individual players just on the demo even before the first game was released...

Then we have the Microsoft Flight Simulator series, as well as Steel Beasts (modern armored warfare tactical simulator, not so much a "game").

Kerbal Space Program is where I more lately has spent lots and lots of time.

102 hours into Mass Effect: Andromeda with 93% completion. after a couple large DLCs have dropped this will be one of the longest newer games around.
have completed the main campaign with 8-10 sidequests still available, mostly just "scan item" quests.

put 105 hours into a Fallout 4 run after the Nuka World DLC released last year. the original playthrough being near the same with zero additional content.
also 115 hours into Witcher 3 GotY with a NG+.

You gota add the Command and Conquer Generals and Command and Conquer 3 to the list. Tons of gameplay there for hours on end.

Another one that I played a lot was Portal 2's community test chambers, unlimited gametime in those.

C&C RA franchise, Overwatch and GTA V. Have Witcher and BF4, but yet to play them. Switched to BF1 instead when it came out. Got BF4 a couple of weeks before that 😀

My son and I continue to play both borderlands and borderlands 2 as well as the DLC's. There is always new and random guns to find through out the game.

Well I have 660 hours on Fallout 4.

The other game I have played as much or more is Master of Orion 2.

The other two main mentionable are Diablo 2 and Morrowind.

for single player games I will say Fallout 2. In my opinion it's the best title of the series and the game literally let's you do anything, resulting in lots and lots of different possible playthroughs. Also I second the "one more turn" for Civilization IV.

If we're talking about MMORPGs then my answer will be World of Warcraft. I had to quit the game so that I could play other games :)

Kerbal Space Program.
Onward.
Total War: Warhammer.
Project Cars.
Darkest Dungeon.
Wasteland 2.
HuniePop.
Dwarf Fortress.
City Skylines.
Planet Coaster.
TF2.

I would second Dwarf Fortress!

There's too many! lol. I got GTAV for online, a buddy runs a FiveM server and the community is great and we have a blast, so who knows, hour-wise, I'll sink into that? I haven't even played past two missions in the singleplayer, GTA Online is where the fun is for me in RP. But everything listed in posts on this thread, and then some. For the really long games? I've played a boatload of DbD. MMO-wise back-itd I played a lot of WoW. Simulations, strategy, revisiting old games that are playable now like the original X-Com!

Not sure on patch 2.42, but I have gotten Civilization II to run off my Civ II disk in Windows 7 64bit. It was about 18 months ago though so not clear on how I did it, but it took me about 30 minutes or so to find a thread somewhere on how to do it.

Gotta add StarCraft/Brood War to that mix -- no idea how many hours I've played since I first bought it back in 1998 (& yes, even with the digital downloads, I actually do still have my physical discs).

Also have to add Halo:CE in there, at least for multiplayer purposes. When I'm in the mood for multiplayer FPS, right now my 2 go-to games are Halo:CE & BF4.

This is how I broke it down for myself, talking just PC games anyway;

Based off this list I put together of games that I have played:

Of the 3 Borderlands games, I have put the most hours in Borderlands 2. I've played them solo, with my son, and in the past with my then girlfriend.

However, somehow, one game has gotten me to exceed my total number of Borderlands 2 hours.

Don't Starve. I don't quite know how or why. It's simple, and it's repetitive. But, I'm always finding a new way to do something a little differently, a little better.

And, I haven't even done much with exploring the underground areas, nor with playing in Adventure Mode.

Warband is also my go to game when I lose interest in any other game.
