I was gonna say there's too many good games that have appeared on the PC that it'd be easier to list the worst PC games

FoxyBox proved it with all those good games haha

True^ But because of this list I'm going to check out some games I never knew existed before since people like them. But if It was a list of the worst games I probably wouldn't have discovered new games I wanted to play.

1. Half Life with a score of 7
2. Doom with a score of 6
3. Starcraft with a score of 5
4. Half Life 2 with a score of 4
5. Deus Ex with a score of 4
6. Warcraft 3 with a score of 4
7. Crysis with a score of 3
8. Star Wars: Tie Fighter with a score of 3
9. Dune 2 with a score of 3
10. Civilization with a score of 3
11. Far Cry with a score of 3 (Technically tied for 5th place)

Now THAT looks like a top 10.

Looks very accurate to me. I don't see how anyone could argue with that list.

Not all of my favorite games made your list, but I certainly respect every game on that list and acknowledge that they all belong.

I am going to go play some Crysis Warhead right now, actually. Love that game.

What you can argue is that the younger crowd will not have any experience with older games, so the list is skewed towards newer games.

This would only apply if more "newer" gamers listed their top 10 then "older" gamers.

I put newer and older in quotation marks, because what defines an older and a newer gamer comes down to opinion.

I would say most people on this thread are not your average "newer" gamer, most of the games listed in this thread range from fairly old to very old.

I can understand where you are coming from a little bit, but to me, there seems to be a nice healthy mix.

I see some new hits and some old classics in this list, and even though I'm not particularly a fan of some of the games on the list I think it is an inarguably fair cross-section of PC gaming. You could certainly add and subtract from the list all day, but it does get the point across.

How can you say that?

First of all, his list came from all of us - gamers of different ages.

Secondly, 4 of the top 5 games on that list were not even released in the last 10 years!!! The only game in the top 5 to have been released in the last 10 years is Half Life 2, and that is 7 years old!

Then you have Warcraft 3, Civilization (very old), Tie Fighter (very old), Dune 2 (very old), Far Cry (7 years old), and Crysis (the newest game on the list and still 4 years old) finishing off the top 10.

Are you serious that the list is skewered toward newer games? Are you serious?

*scratches head*

4 of the games in the top 10 were released on DOS!!!

Are you serious, Bystander?

Wow.

I don't disagree that there are older gamers giving lists. I don't argue that there are older games in the list. I just said it's skewed a bit towards newer games, as those younger will not include older games. Especially those games over 20 years old.

It's not a bad list, I'm just saying it's not a perfect list due to the above.

What I mean by more accurate is that a lot of games are tied for spots and I would have liked every game to have its own spot. but that's just me nitpicking. I don't think it leans at all. Skyrim didn't even make the list of games let alone the top 10 and it's a very popular new game. It's a good balance of new games and old games. If we were talking about console games or if Toms hardware was populated by 13 year olds who only play brand new games. Then I would agree that it leans towards newer games. Besides I consider myself part of the younger members on Toms hardware since I'm 15. But I still prefer Starcraft and half life over a lot of newer games because even though they don't have the best graphics they have that "IT" value that just makes them more fun to play. A lot of other students at my school play older games too.

Only half the games on that list required hardware acceleration at the time of release. Only one (Crysis) requires it today. That is how old that list is.

If anything, I would say it is skewed towards older games.

Maybe I am just misunderstanding what you mean. Perhaps you could clarify how many games you think should be new on a top 10, and how many of those should be old.

Because 7 out of the 10 are very old, having not even been released in this decade. And 9 out of 10 are not even of this generation. That is not skewed towards newer games at all.

Good points.

Skyrim didn't make the list, despite the fact that it is fun with a capital F.

You asked how someone could argue that it isn't accurate, I gave you an argument that could be used. Ease up.

I will agree that there will never be a true 100% accurate list since it's subjective. The only way I could make a list was to use popularity of a game. So it will always be leaning towards the general opinions of the community. I bet if you posted the exact same question on a different forum you would get different answers. The only way I could make it more accurate is with more data.

I understand what your argument is. I just don't think you are being very fair, that's all.

I don't think you are being fair in saying it is skewed towards newer games, seeing as how the vast majority of the games on that list are old.

I guess it depends on your definition of old. I might argue they are kind of middle aged. I wouldn't expect many new games, just because you kind of need time to reflect on a game before you place it as your best of all time.

I also am talking more towards the order of 1-10 and not the list it self.

A lot of the top 10 are interchangeable though. When there were ties I put them in the order I saw them not what spot I thought they deserved. You could argue that since some of the first video games came out in the 60's that all of these games are "New" but to some they aren't. Besides who cares if a game is new or old as long as it's fun!

Hey, I agree with you. I even think it's a pretty good list. I just took up the challenge when he asked that you can't argue that it isn't accurate. So I gave an argument. I guess he didn't want an argument.

The problem is that you always seem to have an argument.

Even when you don't have an argument, you find something to argue about.

As for the definition of old, I call DOS games old. I think any reasonable person would.

Can't you guys just drop this silly argument and get back to talking about awesome video games?
In the mean time I'm going to go kill some zerglings in starcraft.

I said that I don't see how anyone could argue with that list. I guess he took that as some sort of a challenge, or something.

Actually, he and I have gone at it before. And like now, it was over nothing. I even made several concessions during our last argument, and every time it was close to being resolved, he would come at me with something else.

That is why I said he always seems to have an argument.

Some people like to argue - don't know why. :sarcastic:

It takes 2 people to argue, don't act like you are innocent. If you weren't just as stubborn, it wouldn't continue.

This one isn't even an argument as far as I'm concerned. I only pointed out that it could be argued. I don't really care at all.

So does anyone know some cool space games? Just finished a nice round of Master of Orion 2. I have also tried sins of a solar empire but didn't like it too much. Any ideas?

There was a game in the 90's, actually, it had a few sequals that I could not remember, but I found was a lot of fun. Basically, you were some sort of space smuggler. You went around taking jobs to earn credits so you can upgrade your ship, and you'd have to engage in space combat occasionally while out there. I cannot for the life of me remember the name.
