I am having a really strange problem in flotsam for the witcher 2

specs:

gtx 680 2gb

8gb ddr3 RAM

amd phenom 2 1090T @ 3.8 GHZ

The game runs great, but in certain areas i have FPS drops when looking in a certain direction it is VERY annoying.

Examples...

This is really bad as you can see and it is getting in the way of me playing the game as I am unable to pan the camera around.

Can anyone help?

Solution
I don't know. I don't recommend AMD CPU's. I've never seen a CPU comparison that showed AMD favorably in the last few years. While they do ok in many games, there are always a few it falls flat. That too will likely require an upgrade on the motherboard as well.

I have seen the AMD FX-8350 do decent and it fits your motherboard.

The only problem is the Witcher 2 problem may be an AMD compatibility issues.

Well...

fuck.

my mobo doesnt support intel CPUs.

what do i do now?

AMD CPU's and Intel CPU's require motherboards to support them. If you were to change, you'd have to change the motherboard as well.

ok well is there any good amd CPU that i can get for my gtx 680?

Solution
Bingo!Your cpu is the issue

But why this only happens with the witcher 2 is still a mystery

WE NEED TO GO DEEPER

I don't think it has a lot to do with your CPU... I play the witcher 2 too with a 7970 ghz. and a 3570K @3.4 and I also have these strange fps drops to about 40... It's the game, nothing to do about it...

I told you what to do already it doesn't get any deeper.
Run Afterburner and check your GPU usage. If you are running at 99% GPU usage in that particular game, then you have no bottleneck. If you are running at less than 99% GPU usage, particularly if its closer to 50% or less in that particular game, then you have a CPU bottleneck.

Read my last post. It probably is the game...

Yes that might be it as well.

I also play the Witcher 2, and get FPS drops to the mid 40's, but he is talking about FPS drops to 10-15. That is extreme.

Meh I don't know, I just think the game is acting weird sometimes and, especially with his somewhat lesser cpu, it might be the combobetween his cpu and the game that causes this low fps.

Well yeah. All bottlenecks are as such. The game stress a component and the component doesn't keep up, causing a bottleneck. It is possible there is some coding issues as well, one Intel doesn't suffer as much from.

You better knock on wood. Fast. That CPU is known to have problems in plenty of other games too. You just happen to not be playing them. When that CPU was newer, we used to always have at least one thread about it on the front page at all times, but with different games.

Note: this is probably one of the most extreme examples. Most were complaints about drops into the 20's and 30's.

Well I guess I'll just have to wait until I can buy another CPU..

sucks though because my mobo is AMD only lol
