As the title says. I went to the kitchen, and when I came back my cats were on my keyboard (i usually lock my pc if i am going for more than 5 minutes) and I have absolutely no idea what they did but there is a scroll bar on my desktop now. it scrolls my desktop icons up and down a little bit, i tried every option available. and on net, all i could find is someone else had it when they pressed a button on task manager.

This is the text and link on official microsoft answers site (which is not answered)

note: i am running windows 8.1 64 bit pro (genuine license) unlike the one on official answers page.

edit: that bar is remove ONLY if i remove icons too by right clicking desktop and deselecting "Show Desktop Icons"

I am running Windows 8. I was trying to press ctrl+alt+delete to pull up task manage, and I pressed something else instead. The result being my icons got reorganized into a list with very small text(guessing size 8) and a scrollbar was added on the right side of the desktop so that I could scroll up and down to see the whole list. I was able to change from a list back to icons by just right clicking on desktop selecting view>medium icons(just what I prefer, could have used small or large). Anyway, I can't get the scroll bar to go away. It's aesthetically displeasing and it interferes with the "quickbar" that pops up from the right side that is supposed to pseudo-replace a start button.
I've already gone through some options in the control panel and haven't found anything that seemed relevant so I'm open to suggestions.

LOL. Congrats on the funniest problem cause I've read on the site. Certain video drivers have an obscure feature where you can make the desktop bigger than your screen resolution. It was handy on laptops with small screens which couldn't show a full 1024x768 app.

However, in this case, the simpler solution is probably to just do a system restore to before your cats played around with your computer.

I hate my cats when they do this kind of stuff (and I have 4 cats!) they know shortcuts which I have absolutely no idea of. even when I manage to lock my pc they turn screen magnifier and narrator. do not get a led illuminated keyboard/mouse when you have cats... (note: I still cannot get rid of this stupid bar)
