Hello,
I need a very basic set of tools for image editing on Android platform which is similar to basic Paint.net tools for Windows. That includes rectangle select, copy/paste, add text, layers support would be nice. Don't care about photo effects nor drawing.
I have a need to edit PDF documents which I convert to images and do simple editing. Tried at least 5 most known Android apps and they are all crap which can't do much more than apply various stupid beautify effects.

Also tried a couple of online editors but they are very unstable on my tablet.

Any ideas?

Provide a listing of the Android apps that you have tried and why each was considered "crap".

Which online editors were unstable? What actually happened or did not happen when the tablet was unstable.

Make and model tablet? Specs?

More information needed.

Otherwise you may just get suggestions for image editors that you have already rejected for one reason or another.

A couple of resources:

XGimp
"XGimp is an adaptation for Android of the app GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation), which is a freely distributed program for tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring."
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dandroidmobile.xgimp&hl=en_US&gl=US

"GIMP Alternatives for Android"
https://alternativeto.net/software/gimp/?platform=android

Have you actually tried XGimp? It produces something like virtual session to GIMP where you can't export or save anything, see here:

https://ufile.io/lpafx9jr

Furthermore the GIMP creators say it's a crap that is not to be trusted.

Pixlr no selection tools
Photo Studio PRO no selection tools
PhotoDirector no selection tools
Canva internet required and login, have not tested
Photoshop Express not tried but it seems very basic hence no selection tools
XGimp crap

So all of those 'editors' are Instagram generation retarded 'editors' where you can apply some stupid filters to the whole image (no selection) and that's all.

Regarding online stuff I tried:
https://mpaint.net/ - not functioning properly on tablet nor on desktop
https://paint.js.org/ - crap

and a couple of more which require registration and login I don't want to mess with that

For Pdf's Wps office provides a great set of options. It also give you the option to convert Pdfs into images. Picsart and Snapseed work great for me for cut-outs and image editing and adjustments.

Regarding PDF manipulation I have found out that Xodo Premium has the most competent set of features (but there are others too). However, there is no PDF editor that can change underlying content (especially if not previously OCRed), so sometimes I have to convert PDFs to images, to edit them, and to convert back to PDF.

Picsart won't work on my tablet (disabled google play on it). Snapseed doesn't have selection tools (=crap).

Conclusion: I'm not gonna disillusion myself with a thought that Android tablet can replace real OS with light and VERY basic office tasks. Ditching it in favour of Thinkpad x270.
