Thermal paste and cooler installation

Just a quick anecdote on applying thermal paste. If you feel the installation of your heatsink didn't go as smooth as it should have don't be afraid to uninstall, clean and reapply thermal paste. It could be worth the effort and certainly will make you stop second guessing yourself.

While installing a Cryorig H5 this past weekend I had to slightly readjust it's position as I missed one of the screw posts. Didn't lift it, just barely angled it a degree or two to line it up better.

After overclocking to a modest 4.8 on all cores I had a stable system using a --50 offset at LLC 2 (asrock z397 extreme) on my 8700k. Temps maxed out around 88 C on Aida64 with the CPU, Fpu? And cache checked. No Avx offset and vcore maxing out at 1.29 ish.

After reinstalling the H5 my temps have fallen 6-8° on the same test I ran last night. Ambient temperature is within a degree in the room.

Again, if something is nagging you and it doesn't feel right, go for it, you have little to lose and much to gain.

Peace!
