Thermal Paste or Thermal Joint Compound?

So, noob question here please take it easy on me.

My son and I are building our first computer, I picked up a used CPU to upgrade the board we have to the best we can get but the guy who sold it to me did not send any thermal paste with it.

I asked a guy at work if he had any (He fixes all the machines in our factory) and he produced some Wakefield Thermal Joint Compound. It's silicone based, and to the best of my knowledge has Zinc Oxide mixed in. Here's the link:

I know that most people use Arctic Silver, but we want to keep this build under $25 and so far we are at $23.50 for everything and I would hate to buy something I can get for free.

If anyone can let me know if this is safe to use on our father and son project I would appreciate it very much. Thanks and have a great day.

What CPU cooler are you putting on this? If 'new', they usually come with some preapplied.

For that stuff? No idea. I doubt you'd find anyone here that has actually used that. The description sort of implies that it can be used between a CPU and heat sink, but....

"The 120 Series Silicone Oil-Based Thermal Joint Compound fills the minute air gap between mating surfaces with a grease-like material containing zinc oxide in a silicone oil carrier. It possesses an excellent thermal resistance of only 0.05°C/W for a 0.001 in. film with an area of one square inch. There is no measurable increase in case temperature of a mounted semiconductor on a heat sink after the 6-month stabilization period. "

Is that thermal resistance, or thermal transference?

Running stock cooling fan on an old Socket AM2 Board, upgrading from the Athlon X2 64 3800+ to the 6000+

Bought a computer at a thrift store that had the board, CPU, power supply and Ram for $7.50
Spent $15 on the 6000+
everything else we got for free including video card and hard drive. Just want to make sure I don't fry this thing. Thanks for the help.

Thanks I appreciate the offer but we only have the weekend to work on this so I will end up going to radio shack or best buy before it would come. Thank you though.
