for everyone thinking about buying simcity to get a free game I think you may have had to already pruchase the game in the past... I would really double check before you buy simcity and ony get that unless it s what you wanted.

I'm surprised the gift choice is that good, but honestly, are they putting SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition, a 10 year old game on the same level as the others ? True, it's still a great game and arguably works better than the current one, but why not include it in the package and offer another game in addition to that ?

Also, Tom's report on this:

http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=749234

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced that John Riccitiello will step down as Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors, effective March 30.

As far as I know, this is probably one of the best gifts EA could give to its customers.

Well out of those games I guess it's going to be Dead Space 3 it's the most appealing since BF3 and ME3 I already have. I know EA hasn't had the best business practices but come on it's funny how people are never happy if they didn't give a free game out people would complain, but it seems even if they do there still going to complain anyway - just remember that they are not entitled to do this in the first place.

I happen to be Russian.

So in this case, it's written like a random Russian man looking for a Western wife.

If the purchaser of SimCity is below a certain age, I don't remember what it was, they are automatically given SimCity 4 and Bejeweled. I don't think they expect anyone to actually choose SimCity 4.

Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello will step down on March 30 maybe things will change.
Looks like EA is loosing lots of money profits are declining wonder why LOL with drm like this i won't be buying sim city 5 either.

Right there that is kind of unfair and really tells that they don't place those two games on the same level as the others ,yet for adults they only let you chose one.

Also, as to nobody choosing SimCity 4, that might be true now, because everybody already bought it.. from Steam (and maybe Origin too and other places). Yes, in the first two weeks since the release of SimCity, SimCity 4 actually climbed all the way into the top 20.

Free game? too bad EA's not offering something good like Nascar-Racing-2003-Season, which THEY pulled off shelves after buying out Papyrus.

Now they're just throwing settlement money at the easily-controlled customers instead of actually fixing the problem. This is no big deal for them. Imagine how much more it'd cost them if customers petitioned & stood firm and completely stopped buying new games until some favorite old EA game that no longer works proper on new OSes is updated for free, even if means reverse-engineering the code and writing up a completely new engine? An impossible dream. We customers need to be more demanding & patient to get better service. Also an impossible dream for the masses.

Are you sure you can say that's '2 games' for the price of one? "Ooooh! Something shiney!" That being said, and even though I still think EA runs on deceit, and they're making up for handing out broken toys with different toys they literally have an infinite number of (I mean, their digital stock IS infinite) in order to hopefully save some face, it is nice to see that they are at least trying to do something about it.

s997863 they aren't throwing any money any where, it costs them literally nothing but MAYBE a potential sale of a game someone takes for free instead of buying. They've lost nothing but one digital copy out of a pool of infinity.

[citation][nom]Onus[/nom]So, is there any possibility they will scrap the always-online requirement? That is their only hope of getting me to buy Sim City.[/citation]

They're now calling it an MMO, so my guess is NO. There's been vague hinting that offline may be added when the game gets old and they want to save money by switching the servers off. Myeha, I wouldn't bet on that happening.

They also say they have plans for a bunch of additions that will also make use of the online component.

In summary, EA and Maxis are really, really trying to make us believe the online part is needed for purposes other than DRM. I almost believe them, because reportedly a crack is already in place, to be released once the worst bugs have been ironed out with patches - if that's true then clearly for DRM it's a big fat failure :)

On the other hand, having played SC for a wile now, I'm starting to like or be OK with a lot of the things that really lit my fuse at first. I do like playing online with friends, I've not yet rage quit over having too little space in one city, the next patch seems to fix the traffic problems...

Still, on top of the DRM crap, the game seems to be pretty beta. 10 years after the previous title, that's just sad.

There is much hate for EA for their past ignorance...but isn't this a baby step towards the right path? Admitting their wrong doing and compensating?

Frankly, I would give more credit to Maxis in probably pushing EA to take this step since I think Maxis is the one that actually cares about its customers. But ultimately, yes, it is a step in the right direction for EA as is their CEO stepping down.
In another month or so anyone interested in enjoying Simcity will be doing so with the past issues put behind them. I'll be more than happy to take a free game as their gesture of appreciation while enjoying Simcity as well.

Now there are reports of players that bought sim city 5 from amazon are having their accounts disabled lol.

wow just wow this is really sad i am glad i did not buy it.

I don't buy games with online only drm waste of time with all that goes wrong with them at launch. ubi soft, blizzard made this mistake before u can get ur money from someone else. makes no sense for me to buy a game legally if ur drm prevents me from playing it. but releasing unfinished and broken games is apart of everyday life now why i wait for steam sales or rent the game from gamefly unless i know the dev track record
