ok got it installed now and its ticking away but its telling me gonna take 104 days to finish what heck is going on??? or is this normal. cheers

Your Computer is still benchmarking on how fast and on average your computer can handle a folding load. It's normal around 100 days come down to 6-7 hours and 200-300 days will come down to a few days or a week at best. Depending on AMD or Intel CPU or Single or Dual Core

Well The Graphical FOLDING starts automatically when i start my computer and i forget about it. And the NON-graphical i think you have to Start up and make fold yourself. Better to get Graphical Version. Runs a bit slower but you can Install/Enable and forget about it(as long as you set it right) Not sure about HT but for Dual core you have to paste 2 copy in each core to take advantage of both cores. Remember its folding for team #40051
The non-graphical one can be loaded to start as a service. In fact, the first time you run the non-graphical one, it asks the same question. Then you immediately close that (after it's downloaded the first WU or starts processing), open up the device manager and start the Folding@Home service. No graphics, no headache, shut down just by going to the device mgr & stopping it, etc. Use one of the various monitor programs mentioned earlier in this thread to track it. :) (I know - its 45 pgs long - they're on one of the last couple pages)

Boy, tell me. I was up to over 1k on my daily average for a while, and have now slipped back to about 700-800. (shakes fist at Stanford) Oh well, what can you do?

Oh yeah! Add more systems!

So, one notebook: AMD Sempron 3100+
and one dual-core: PD805 (currently being OC'd).

Ought to get me back well above 1k a day.

I want us to be one of the Top 50 teams, and if we keep working at it, we'll get there.

Pentium Dual core...Sweet.

The only problem is I am going to have to upgrade another P4 machine to a D920 to maintain that #4 producer spot. I alread had to add folding on the first PC I don't own just to keep an edge on you. Jeez what's it take to get a break around here?

Here's a little extra help:

FahMon

Electron Microscope III

I use both to monitor my local folding systems. Either works fine. If you have any questions on setup, feel free to PM me or just post back to this forum, or our section in Distributed Computing under Software.

@DoubleD: I have a small advantage, in that I work for a local computer shop in Savannah, GA. I get to put my hands on a lot of people's systems, both server and workstation. Most, though admittedly not all, of my clients are allowing me to load F@H on their systems, many of which run 24/7. So, slowly but surely, I'm aiming for top spot here.

Still and all, I thought I would have caught you by now. Keep up the good work!

Cheers guys, good microscope working all seems to be good at the mo, got two clients on the go aswell, not much seems to be happening right now but CPU is max and of course i have the right team chosen

Use the non-graphical client.

Creat a folder on your harddrive and copy the client in there that you download from stanford's site. Then start the client and set it up with your username and team 40051. When it asks you whether you want to start it as a service, put yes.

Once it starts you can quit the client and go to control panel/performance and maintance/administrative tools/services

Go to FAH@... and start that service.

You're good to go.

@ComputerDude,Ralkthor,Bigger,&DoubleD
I've been trying to stay ahead of you guys loading up any machine I can get people to let me. I thought for a brief time there I might manage to out pace everyone but Double. Where do you guys keep finding more horse power? Except of course ComputerDude.

That is a great strategy. To be fair to your customers you probably should give them the option of folding under their own names (for our team of course, you did brin ghtem into the whole thing). I have set up a few people folding under their own names for our team as well as my name.

@Everyone
Keep up the great work. The goes doubly for those people I mentioned above, I don't mind losing my place if I know its because other people are bringing more power to bear. I would be bothered a little if my average was going down and others had averages going up. But we're all getting creamed by this current crop of WU's.

The Pentium D 805 is currently Windows stable at 3.9GHz a core, and is currently Prime95 stress-testing. Can't wait to finish dialing this bad-boy in and unleash it on some poor, unsuspecting WUs. 8O

I just can't take being under 1k a day. Don't know why. I'm pretty sure I'll manage to maintain that now.

Yup these guys have about a few Dozen computers running their folding undertheir name. So when one computer gets a work another 2-3 of them finish giving his name few hundred points. and davidflet9 your only running one computer or what i think your running so when you get a workload you can only get points every time you finish a work, so this might take hours or days at a time to get yourself points . I've got 8 computers running my Folding but my Computer >>>>listed below is the only one that seems to be doing anyfolding at all. Others are 2.8 and 3.0Ghz Non-HT computers

@daivdflet9

If you look up a few posts you'll see where computerDude gets his processing power, He works at a computer repair shop and puts FAH on customers machines (if they ok it first).

Few dozen? Nah. You should be able to hit 1000 per day with 5-6 machines with current processors and good memory. I have 4 computers that fold all the time. One shares time as a file server, another as a media center PC, another as my game machine, and another just folds 24/7. The media center PC and the Game machine are dual core with nice overclocks. I can Play BF2 while folding on 1920X1080 Screen in SLI. Of course I have it OC'd to nearly 4 ghz, 4gb ram and it's liquid cooled, but it can still fold while playing. The media center machine is the same way. i can watch TV or DVDs or whatever as it folds in the background. So those slow donw to about 1/2 duty while I am using them for 4-6 hours a day. I also added my laptop to stay ahead of computer dude and then had to add my POS work computer for a couple extra hundred points a week. So, I really only have the equivelent of 5 computers running average, 2 of which are dual core. If they were all dual core I would be closer to 2000

Exactly. Problem with all those extra clients that have been installed on client machines is that they don't run 24/7, except for a few of the office PCs. So while I may have installed a few dozen copies of the client, some have been disabled since, and many just don't run often enough to ever finish a WU before its deadline.

Even some of the machines in my shop don't fold 24/7, and several that do are older boxes, and running M$ 2k server, which doesn't leave a lot of horsepower available for folding.

Oh well, that's what the 805 is for. 😀

Edit: Page 47! Woot!

Edit: Well, the 805 is down. Managed to blow a 550-watt FSP PS. Replacement has already been ordered, and will be here tomorrow. Thermaltake 680Watt Silent PurePower, clicky, clicky.

I guess that poor power supply just couldn't handle driving that 805 at > 4GHz a core. However, I was verified stable at 3.9 and in the process of stability testing at 4.06. Didn't catch any blue screen, just a puff of smoke and the machine shut down.

Only other components in the machine at the time were 2GB OCZ RAM, a Seagate 80GB HD (7200.9 w/8MB cache) and a GeForce 6600LE that I had laying around.

Snagged a POS 450watt and the system booted back up, so no harm done. Hopefully, I'll be up and running again tomorrow and pick up where I left off.

hi folks,
great to see us in place 79! *pads shoulders*
a bit offtopic, but here's the reason, I don't post so often anymore:

jipiee!

Thanks cunning, glad to contribute. Where can I find team statistics? Like of individual 'contributors?'

They are grouped on two separate networks, but thanks for your suggestions, I'll give those two appies a go. The internet here was down [again] - damn country - so I've only managed to get through four or five [work units?Simulations?]. But should be back on track now.

Am angling for an 805 - it does give quite a lot of value for the price you pay - which should hopefully hold me off until I get a pair of Opty's :roll:

my line looks like a roller coaster too. My trend line is currently going down for the second time ever. The first time was when I took two machines ofline to rebuild them a while back and spent some days testing them before starting to fold again.

In short, yes the work units really blow right now.
