Thieves Clean Out Apple Store in Half a Minute

Even if he knew the alarm went off in mere seconds... He would have to assess the situation before getting involved. After all, a security guard is first and foremost a paid witness. If he can stop a crime, kudos, but not at the expense of possible injury.

How ironic would it be if one of those iphones exploded and maimed a theif?

First of all, floor merchandise is insured against robbery and accidental destruction (soda spilled on it by someone checking it out). If its not then the store owner is a moron.
Second, its the security guards job to prevent robbery and only stop an in progress robbery if its some punk kid (ie seems weak and unarmed). Third, the second job of a security guard is to be an eye witness. He'll be able to ID actual Height, Weight, build, etc. better than anyone viewing some crappy video. This is especially useful when the robbers are taking extra precautions as they did in this case.

Lastly, lol no gate preventing exactly this type of robbery!

I think even Apple has the decency or common sense to write down the serials of the display units. Though we may never know for sure.

Major7: When they register? Is online registration with one's real name required in OSX? I've never, ever registered a copy of Windows, or anything else using my real name, I doubt Apple requires it and validates it, but that would be one more reason not to buy Apple if true.

Although TBH, they looked more like the ghetto, thugged-out crew, rather than the L337 hax0r crew, so if any kind of TPM>lost/stolen feature is present in a MacBook, I doubt that they'd be smart enough to know how to thwart it...

I know I'm supposed to feel bad for the situation but I couldn't stop laughing at the whole thing. It was like a comedy act. When I heard “like professionals”, “skilled” “savvy” “precision timing” I was expecting a 007 like agent dropping from the ceiling.

Notes to Apple:
1. Roll down gates might not look "cool", but get them and use them at ALL the Apple Stores.

2. All the Macs have Kensington lock slots, use them. Cable the machines to the tables or the floor. That would have at least slowed down the thieves.

After stealing all that, they will come to realize you don't steal from Apple. How do you sell crappy laptops that are marked up and only have a 5% market share?

Well I guess if you see some Macs for sale for REASONABLE prices then it most be stolen.

From the way this job was done, I would say that these thieves previously cased the place at different times to get to know the layout of the store.
Possibly taking pictures of the layout with their cellphones without anyone noticing them doing so.

Also, watching the video, it's hard to tell, but it seems that some of the thieves were not completely covered. Such as their hands, arms or even their legs showing. A good CSI unit ought to be able to enhance the original footage enough to check for any identifying markings such as tatoos or scars, or any personal items they may have been wearing which could be used to identify any of the suspects.

This in turn would allow them to go through the security footage from the Apple Store for the past couple of weeks and see if anything turns up. Chances are, they should be able to find at least one or more of the guys casing the place.

They should also check the outside security cameras from the parking lot and any from adjoining businesses which may have caught the thieves. They should be able to track them from one camera to the next and with any luck, catch them without their masks or better yet, catch their vehicles and license plates.
