By the time the guard saw and realised what five intruders were doing in there within 31 seconds can you really blame him if he did nothing even if he was NOT aware of guns but only of them? Wtf can you think of doing within half minute if they brake in your place all five and you watch from distance? He is more than excused if you ask me.

If apple can't even secure their own stores, how can they claim to have a secure OS?

Good sense (coz god knows it sure isn't common) would dictate a shutter for the store and kensington locks on all devices capable of having it fitted. If they're overlooking this kind of thing in a simple application such as a shopfront you've gotta wonder what they've overlooked in a complex case like their OS.

I think that crapple stores world wide will see a hefty increase in their insurance rates... Expect to see price increases in crapple products to cover this extra expense.

Soon you'll see unibody MAC-ish gates in every store, so they can match the products. If I were Apple I would create a nice security system involving the use of explosive ipods as land mines. The guys cased the joint before. Knew the layout, maybe even used a phone to video tape the layout. Then do practice runs by setting up a few folding tables in the same layout. Use a couple of old notebooks to practice slamming them. Perhaps using slabs of wood so they have weight and mass down. Do that a few times, yeah - anyone could do it.

And yes, there are PRO thieves out there that steal all the time, this is more organized and a huge theft at one time.

My guess, for looks and flexibility of showing a notebook to customers, they are not using security locks on the computers. When looking at portable hardware, the security link does get in the way, or worse - they are LOCKED down... yet the notebooks still end up stolen.

OH - IMPORTANT:

Security Guards ARE not there to arrest anyone. They are ONLY a deterrent. "Oh man, renta-cop sees me, gets my license plates", whatever. Their job is check doors, locations, be inside a building and report to the Police if something happens.

- Security guards are NOT Cops. A police officer can get in trouble for killing a person with ability to prove good or bad shooting. A Security guard can go to prison for murder.

Just like pro's, shattering the glass with experience and crap... common, they threw a brick or rock in the window, ran in and stole the stuff... What's the guard going to do? All he can do is observe everything he can and help the police. The store should have insurance, so that's not a biggie.
