Thinking about a new CPU, need some advice.

Hey guys!

So i recently build a pc, and i am considering upgrading, since the performance is not the way i want it to be.
So, the specs are as followed :
Asus M5A99FX Pro 2.0
AMD FX-8350
Inno3D iChill GTX 780 Herculez
16 GB GeIL DDR3-1600 Dragontribal
BeQuiet POWERZONE 1000W (yeah, overkill much, sorry :))

And the performance is not bad, but not really fitting my expectations either. I am running almost anything perfectly fine, however some games are really bugging me performance wise. They tend to run smoothly, at around 30+ FPS, but drop down to below 20 FPS for some time, but manage to get back up to above 30 FPS. These Games include ArmA 3, Crysis 3 and Metro Last Light. Now im starting to worry, that my PC wont be as fast as i want it to be for the upcoming games, Titanfall and Watch Dogs, just to name a few.

Since my motherboard only supports PCI-E 2.0 and not PCI-E 3.0, and PCI-E 3.0 is super important, apparently, i will have to get a new motherboard, but i dont want to spent too much on a new MB aswell. I would be able to sell my Asus MB and the FX-8350, so thats not a problem. However, i dont know what to get instead of the FX-8350.
I just recently watched up a few Intel CPU's, and the ones i could relate to getting are the i5-4670K and the i7-4770K. But since i do only play games on my computer and am not rendering any videos YET, i thought about getting the i5. However, the next-gen games are ment to profit more from multi-core setups now, as Crysis 3 does, so getting the i7 is not a bad choice either, and since im thinking about starting a youtube channel, rendering videos would be an option aswell.
And by browsing more, i discovered that the Intel Xeon E-1230V3 apparently is a secret tip for people who do not overclock as much, and since i never did overclock anything i ever owned, that would be a good choice, in my opinion. However, my CPU knowledge is rather thin, so i thought why not ask people who understand more than i do.

So, what do you guys think? Which of these CPU's should i get, or should i stick with my FX-8350 and hope that switching to PCI-E 3.0 does the great deal? And the budget is somewhat limited at 500€, or at 750€ if i would sell the MB and the current CPU.

Thanks in advance!
And sorry for my bad english, as it is not my first language.

In my opinion the 4670K is the best for you , it's a quad core CPU and it's unlocked , a very good performer , there isn't a big difference in games between the 4670K and the 4770K

Why would you spend money on CPU's that are almost the same as yours.. Just buy a new motherboard that has PCI-e 3.0 and you are good to go. And with those specs I don't get how you run those games on such low FPS, guess it's the motherboard.

Yeah, something else is up. You shouldn't be getting such low FPS.

PCI-E 3.0 makes almost no difference compared to 2.0 for most users.

I'd also recommend that you overclock that 8350, you have a nice board for it too.

Try graphics driver updates and BIOS updates.

I am running on 1920x1080, so i am really unsure as to why i get that much of a fps drop.
My graphic card driver is up to date. And i dont really do much overclocking, since i am extremly unconfident with such stuff. I do have a Dark Rock 2, which is perfect for overclocking, though. And a BIOS update could do the trick, though i dont know for sure. Its worth a try anyway.

Just tried two different games, one being Metro Last Light, which ran through my custom benchmark with a min FPS of 31 and a max FPS of 61, average FPS being 48. That is something i was expecting from a 1500€ custom PC build. However, as i did a benchmark on Assassins Creed 4, the min FPS were at 19 and the max FPS at 61, the average FPS being 27!!! That is way too low for a 1500€ PC, or am i just expecting too much?

Anyway, as it is, i propably need to upgrade my CPU for it to run smoother than it does at this point and time. Which CPU would you suggest?

Thanks.

the ENTIRE POINT of AMD's FX line is that it is unlocked and ready to be overclocked. For you, a 30$ investment in a proper cooler can net you another 1- 1.5ghz out of your 8350! Even right now, you can squeeze another 500mhz no problem. Its really really painless, you just get some software that monitors temperatures, and you can raise clock speeds in bios now.

I remember with old computers, you actually had to change jumpers on the board to over clock the cpu. Good times.

I do have a Dark Rock 2 from BeQuiet, which was like 50€. Guess i could give it a shot.
Any good tutorials on how to do it?
