I currently use a Radeon R9 280 but as my game library expands, I have considered moving to a GTX 1060. I have only ever used Radeon cards in this rig so I didnt know if switching to an NVIDIA based card would cause issues. Are there any steps you recommend when switching?

Depends on your budget and what specifics you're looking for. There are two versions of the GTX 1060: a 3GB model and a 6GB model. The 6GB model has more CUDA cores and is slightly more powerful than its 3GB sibling.

Main differences in graphics cards come from factory overclocks and cooling solutions. Base performance should be the same for the same GPU.

I personally favour MSI's Twin Frozrs, though I'm still using a GTX 750 ti.... I've heard good things about ASUS's Strix for cooling and I've seen mentions of that line overtaking EVGA's.
