Thinking of upgrading RAM to 16 or higher. Currently have 8GB (2x4GB sticks). Should I get 8GB (2x4) or 16GB(2x8)?

I am thinking of upgrading my PC soon, since so far with new released I noticed I am getting the error of running out of ram, especially when I have chrome open while gaming (I've got a two monitor setup).

As of now I have 8GB total, which is 2x4GB sticks of GSkill RAM and I am wondering if I should just end up getting another 8GB (2x4) to make my total 16, or should I maybe buy the 16GB (2x8) and then add that with my current 8GB (2x4) to create a total of 24GB of RAM to sort of future proof it so I have a bit more so it may be awhile before I get the errors of low RAM again?

Normally from my experience you would always want to get the rams in pairs and try to get the same specs and the RAM I'm looking at is the same specs, just different GBs size?

This is my current RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460&cm_re=gskill_sniper-_-20-231-460-_-Product

and I would either like to get another 2x4 like above or get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=gskill+sniper&N=-1&isNodeId=1

I will keep that in mind then, I wonder then when I get the 2x8 RAM sticks then could I still use my old 8GB (2x4) along with the 16GB (2x8) so then I would have like 24GBs total?

Will do and thanks again for the help.
