Third monitor on Quadro 2000 - Second card?

Morning all,

I have a workstation that I use for 3D rendering/modeling. I'd like to set up a third monitor.

I have a Quadro 2000 that supports dual display. Only two digital outputs are supported at once. There are no on-board graphics.

Short of upgrading the gpu to one that supports more than 2 monitors, what are my other options? Could I add a second, entry level gpu to support the third monitor? The third display will be used for internet/office applications.

You can use more than one GPU to support additional monitors. However, be aware you cannot run one X session across multiple graphics cards. What this means is on the third monitor, attached to a second graphics card, you will have a separate desktop session. You will still log in to your computer once as usual, but the third monitor will have a separate desktop session.

You can move your mouse between the monitors in whatever configuration you specify in nvidia-settings. You can run any programs you want as usual but you cannot drag running programs in windows from monitors attached to the second graphics card, over to monitors attached to the first graphics card.

Also, in this configuration, the performance of graphics-intensive applications will depend on which monitor you are running them on.
