you just might come across problems with the bio's. So you will need to go on Asrock website and update bio's because that board had a lot of updates on the bios

It seems has to have a lot of DOA reviews which kinda alarms me.

don't worry about that. if you do get a DOA board you can return it and get another one. And i suggest you to call Asrock to get it RMA'd and tell them to send you a pint out label to cover your shipping.

you can get a DOA board on every brand of motherboard.

It has not had a lot of DoAs. All Z97 had problems to start with because they were released for sale before the haswell refresh CPUs were available.
