97% of users have Flash and Apple are trying to tell us it's obsolete? What about the other 3%? Maybe they just reimaged their machine! LOL!

[citation][nom]XD_dued[/nom]Hmmm...I'm not sure how comfortable I am with them being able to find this information. I wonder what else they can see...[/citation]

Its a opt in survey much like the hardware survey they do to get an idea of what kind of hardware is common.

[citation][nom]tolham[/nom]only a third of windows users have windows media player installed? i thought that was intertwined with windows.[/citation]

This probably includes Macs and WMP is uninstallable. I use WMP12 because its simple and links with WMC.

But there are some decent alternatives out there.

[citation][nom]2real[/nom]doesn't apple force you to install it with itunes? or they used to i haven't used their crappy products in at least 6 years[/citation]
No it's optional during the iTunes install. Unlike Microsoft, who does force you to install their Web Browser and their Media Player. At least they used to, I haven't used any Microsoft products since 1999 or so - kicked that crap to the curb.

Why so many WinRAR installs? 7-Zip is much better, plus it's open-source and free. WinRAR is closed and is just a shareware eval copy.

who cares if IE is installed you're not forced to use it you can just take it off your task bar and replace it with opera and firefox like i do

[citation][nom]bustapr[/nom]Wow, only 29% of steam users have ATI cards. I thought more pc gamers would have ATI cards by now, its common sense to pay less for more quality most of the time.[/citation]

You don't have to install the Catalyst control center in order to run an ATI card. This could show that those with common sense see no need for that bloatware.

I've never been asked to pay for winRar and i get full access to all features

How is 7-zip better, besides being open source? It's painfully slow compared to WinRAR or WinACE.

iTunes is not optional if you own an ipod. And they FORCE you to install quicktime which is complete garbage.
Kinda a stupid compairason btw, it's MS OS, they should be allowed to put w/e they want. You can remove them. Just like OSX that comes with a shit ton of software like safari and itunes.

[citation][nom]bluntobjection[/nom]Surprised photoshop and Fraps wasn't on this list[/citation]
I'd rather use Paint.net than pirate a huge program I won't even use 1% of.

Nvidia fanboys go straight to the source (people looking to build/upgrade their first computer) and indoctrinate them. They are slaves for life after that.

If you looked at the OS being used you'll notice that win 7 64-bit was the most used OS in the list. In win 7 you can remove media player.. It is something that most of already know here, (no disrespect intended)

No the poor souls installed M$ silverlight (shuddering at the thought)

[citation][nom]Dr Righteous[/nom]YEP. And that information is for sale. Guess what; You guys that Bit-torrent might be in for a surprise when you are targeted by lawyers seeking to skin you for the possibility of software pirating. Note in these cases they DO NOT HAVE TO PROVE YOU ARE GUILTY. They just have to have a suspension. Bit torrent client suspicious? To a scummy lawyer YES.[/citation]

Personally I have Utorrent for patch installs and in some case game downloands. Mortal Online is an example of that one. Just because I have a Springfield XDM 9mm, doesn't mean I am going to rob a bank, it just means I happen to own a firearm, nothing more.

[citation][nom]zak_mckraken[/nom]Most people install it with iTunes without knowing. It's also a pre-requisite for movie previews on the Apple site, which is kind of cool. But, yeah, QT is a big pain in the butt.[/citation]
QTLite fixes all that nonsense.

7zip might be a good on the compression side but its interface is not as good. For example if you drag and drop say a 2gb file from the archive, 7zip first unzips it to the temp directory and then copies it to the destination folder while WinRAR extracts directly to the destination thus saving a lot of time on big files. I use 7zip but I can understand why some people may prefer WinRAR even if they have to pay for it.

[citation][nom]hixbot[/nom]This is a breach of privacy. What gives Valve the right to retrieve information on your installed software?[/citation]

Your required explicit consent?

If you're only interested in decompressing, winrar evaluation version does everything you need, including extracting 7zip files. 99% of users don't need to create compressed archives, we just need to extract.
