hi there,my brother gave me his 2 year old HP laptop with intel celeron n4000 and I noticed it is sooo slow.
It takes at least ten mins to open google. on task manager disk is 100%
I reinstalled windows 11 and it still doing same.
There is loads of space on the SSD. .
what on earth is the problem?

hi,exact model not sure.prob would take a week to find it as so slow to load anything.
yes,at least 500 gb free
ram i will have look, but im sure its 4gb at least, which would be ample, and not cause this issue.
its def.no more than 3 year old.

That's a 6 year old dual core CPU.

TDP 6 watts. Base frequency 1.1 ghz.

Offhand, I'd guess you need to adjust your expectations. Unless it has only recently become slow.

By most standards, it was weak/slow the day it was released.

Seriously, the basic things like opening google, shouldnt take 10 mins.
and disk should not say 100% on task manager when its doing nothing.

Was it known to be slow when your brother had it?

Or is this a new development AFTER you got it? If so, what has changed AFTER you took over?
my brother gave to me for children for school.he only had it from new ,and didnt do much on it.
when i went to use it and told him it was slo as..,he said was ok when he used it around christmas.
although i think he just switched it on and looked at what was on desktop.
Bottom line is it should not be this slow.

Edit
And remember, I reinstalled Windows 11 on it thinking that would help, but it made zero difference.

i will double check storage device, how can i do that?
and even if it is HDD,
it should not be this slow, otherwise why was it invented?
to just switch on and look at it?
every basic function is taking ages.

Device Manager under "disk drives"?

Or:

If you type "system" in a search box, that should lead you to "system information".

You should see a sub-section of that for "components".

Under that would be "storage".

That might lead you to a brand name and model number that we could trace.

Or pound Google for the HP site if you happen to have an HP model number.

It might be stronger than a 1991 Intel 486. Have you used one of those lately?

What did you find when you looked for the drive info in Device Manager?

its updating windows 11 22H2 at mo,been sitting at 25% for past hald hour.
could it be that updating is using all resources?

Sure. You are dropping a BB into a gallon of molasses and waiting for it to sink. Consider yourself lucky if the BB doesn't float.

Windows 11 would be the least of my worries. If the laptop is weak, it will remain weak on 11.......unless something else is going on...RAM failure, drive dying, whatever.
