Guys, would this PC spec be more powerful than an Xbox One X?

CPU: i5-8500
GPU: RX 580 8GB
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 16GB 2733MHz
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z370-P
Power Supply: Corsair TXM Series 80 PLUS Gold 550W

I'd take the PC 100 times out of 100. Apart from specific game releases that ONLY come out for xbox, which there aren't many, it's the PC every time. It's a much better experience. That PC spec is much more powerful than an Xbox One x or any other current gen console.

That PC would be very capable, give better graphics than the Xbox, plus is much more configurable. You can do much more with a PC. You can always upgrade components down the line, and still have a kick ass system for 4-5 years (depending on what you upgrade, and what you upgrade to!)

Of course the argument being the price. YOu can get a cheap xbox, controllers and a heap of games for the price of the PC. The gaming experience on consoles is good, don't get me wrong. For me I love driving sims/racers and games like Tomb raider/Drake (PS) etc. But for First Person Shooters/RTS/MMO type games, I think the mouse keyboard controls with a PC are more precise. Specially First person shooters.

On top of that you get higher fps on higher resolution monitors than with xbox. For me it's a no brainer. But I'm biased 😉

Thanks for that, but why is it that the X1X can do 4K at a stable 30fps while something like this PC spec would struggle to do 4K 30fps stable on ultra? If this spec is more powerful than an X1X, then surely it should be able to match the Xbox's 4K performance or even exceed it? I don't get it.

Agree totally with one and three.

Something to consider about 2 is how much more of those specs the OS requires.

Good point. For the games that the Xbox can push 30/60 at 4k, then it can be nice and simple. Pushing those same fps with a R580 at that res, well for some games yes, but not really AAA games. So that is a consideration.

OK, but what about for 1080p60fps on ultra, which is better?

In my opinion, this is where the PC will shine. I feel like the GPU will shine in that area it was "designed" to push, at better texture.

Still anxious to hear other answers on this one.

Yes, that's true in a way. The 'specs' of the PC are much more powerful, and is much more capable system. On the other hand the xbox is really just a pure designed gaming machine. That's it's task. It gets the most out of it's hardware, even though now at this stage it's dated. (as is the R580 GPU in the PC - ill come back to that) But that hardware and it's design is a little different from PC architecture. Yes, it can in some games give 30/60 fps @4k and be nice, but you 'can' get better performance with the PC. It's very subjective though, and there are arguments for both.

I'm biased because I like to upgrade my PC to maintain high quality gaming, and for the games I play (mostly) the PC is better suited. But equally so, some games I prefer to play on my PS4. But it's only one or two games. The rest is PC all the way. The main reason is being able to upgrade the GPU.

So the X1X GPU was 'designed' to push 4K and the RX 580 was 'designed' to focus on 1080p. Is that why the RX 580 paired with an i5 8400 does better at 1080p and the Xbox does better at 4K?

Totally agree. That 8400 is a demon at 1080p, and really pushes a GPU to the max. With 60hz refresh it's so smooth with that combo of CPU/GPU. And ultra settings all the way!

it's a custom AMD cpu with custom os and paired with that incredibly fast DDR5 is what blows everyone away and allows the stable 30fps. it does too, i see it everyday.

I would take the Xbox One even over PC gaming. look at the forums with all the stupid stuttering and such. why waste your time? you want to play, not work--right?

yeah, the Xbox One X on an LG 65 inch OLED is AMAZING in 4k, stable, solid. far draw distances, no stuttering. plays all new and most old 360 games as well, and the online experience cannot be beat.

the one X is like a high end pc for a budget price, 500 bucks is a steal. a good video card is 718, you do the math.

OK, just one more question. Would the Xbox One X be able to run something like Battlefield 5 at 1080p locked at 75fps on the PC ultra settings?

Thanks and I have a 75Hz monitor, I said 60fps because that's the common thing. Anyway, if I were to play a demanding title on the X at 1080p 60fps, what graphical settings should I expect. Woud the visuals be similar to PC's ultra settings, or would there be compromises at 1080p60?

Apologies, I misread your last post, and gave some incorrect info. The Xbox can run 120hz, but I'm not sure if there are games that take advantage of that. And that's also not at 4k.

It's my understanding that Xbox graphics are of lesser quality than PC graphics. So i'd equate normal Xbox graphics settings to roughly high settings on a PC. That's were the hardware in a PC give more quality than the limited capabilities of the console GPU.

Keyboard and mouse coming to Xbox One has been rumoured since the One launched. I think it will be great if/when it happens, I see lots of opportunity beyond gaming. Add an Office licence or other application and you have a great PC replacement for many home users.

Agreed. The console can game, and do things like YouTube, Netflix, etc., basically SmartTV stuff.

The PC is a far broader multi-purpose device.

BUT - even if we stick to ONLY gaming, with PCs it generally seems that the hardware is more expensive, but the games wind up being cheaper (witness the Steam sales, etc).

And, older games will work on your newer PC. That's not guaranteed with all games on consoles as far as I know (maybe that's changed in recent years)

The reason why the Xbox X and PS4 Pro can game at 4K is because the game developers fully optimize them for the consoles (that includes sacrificing some quality and graphical settings) just to meet the 30/60 fps window.

4K on a console and 4K on a PC with the right hardware is different.

Why do you think console prices have gone up? It's because they're trying to achieve what a PC can do.
Now lets say they release a console for around $1,000 then that may be a console that can run true 4k with stable 60fps.

Just see these Xbox One X owners:

At this point, would Xbox one X owners sacrifice graphics for better performance?

So I wouldn't really call anything 4k fps on Xbox One "stable"

You're right. I watched numerous videos on YouTube of the Xbox One X running at 1080p 60fps. I was shocked to see that even at 1080p, the X can't keep up a stable 60fps. There's frequent dips even to as low as 40 fps on many games, even with graphical compromises! However, a mid range PC with an RX 580 and an i5 8400 can maintain a locked and stable 75 fps with the same settings as on the Xbox One X at 1080p, even at ultra! Conclusion is that a mid range PC is more powerful and an X1X has a shitty, bottlenecking Jaguar CPU.
