I built a new pc over thanksgiving weekend, but got a dud of a motherboard, I had gone through the process of applying some Arctic silver 5, as it suggests on there website. But of course in order to remove the board, I had to remove, the heatsync and the cpu. I put the cpu (i7 4770k) back in its plastic container it came in, and covered the copper surface of Cooler Master Seidon 120XL, with the plastic cap it originally came with, without cleaning them off (neither of these caps/containers actually came in contact with the AS5). I just now got the broad, and have everything up and running again. And I'm getting idle temps of 33 c, and running maximum temps of 68 c, when running a stress test for 10 minutes via prime95 at stock speeds.
Is 68 c around what I should expect with my setup, or do you think cleaning, and re-applying the AS should yield better results?
I feel its a bit high, especially at stock speeds, but I wanted others opinions.
Recap:
* Recycled Artic Silver 7 (didn't clean and re-apply, was only used for 24 hours prior, sat for 2 weeks, but was covered)
* Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120XL
* CPU: i7 4770k Stock speed
* Stress Test resulted in max temperature of 68c using prime95 for 10 minutes.
* High numbers or ok numbers for setup?
