Hello,

I am in the process of figuring out a nice gaming build for under $600 and have come up with this so far:

Would you please give your opinion on my build in its current state and tell me what I need to change to make it better or maybe even cheaper. Thanks for your time :)

Thanks,
Ke'ale

Dude, you have all low grade parts, and then a giant gpu, that is a wreck waiting to happen

I agree with spooky2th, that for amd, you want at least a 6 core processor. Most modern games recommend an amd 6-core or above. Other than that, I hope you have a copy of your os. Also, the motherboard is great for upgrading to a better graphics card or cpu some time in the future. I have this mobo its amazing, the uefi (bios) is great for new builders.

I completely disagree. There is not one single part in that build, other than maybe the case, that is "low grade"

So you're suggesting he pairs an i3 duo core with an r9 290? I would say get a 280x or 280 and then upgrade to at least a quad core since most games basically require it anyways

Guys, if you can fit an R9 290 and an i3 (which has all the upgradeability to i5 or i7 that FX doesn't have) for under 600, you'd be crazy not to buy it. Its an amazing deal. DOn't get the FX, its outdated and old and dead. Go for the i3 build and upgrade CPU later.

I would never recommend an i3 for a gaming comp. If you are going with Intel, get your money right and get at least an i5. You're only gonna want to upgrade that i3 soon enough. The good thing about the AMD 6300 series CPU's is that they can be OC'd and will leave any i3 in the dust. The i3's don't even have turbo boost.

The i3 beats the FX6300 is just about every game. The i3 even beats the FX8350 in MOST games no matter how much it's overclocked. Overclocking the FXs 20% is not going to make up the i3's 45-50% single core performance advantage. Also keep in mind that an effectively overclocked FX6300 build will be much MUCH more expensive than an i3 build.

The Athlon x4 860k is about the only AMD I can recommend now. A mildly overclocked 860k will give the FX6300 a run for it's money while costing WAY less.

I would never recommend a FX6300 for a gaming build.

You would never recommend i3 for a gaming PC ? Yet you recommend fx-6300 which i3 beats in every game ? i3 will handle R9 290 just fine, if you would look at some benchmarks you will see that i3 is not much behinde i5 because of hyperthreading and he can upgrade later to i5, What can he do with AM3+ socket ? There is nothing worth upgrading if he will use a PC for gaming, when fx-6300 wont be enough anymore he will need to change CPU+Mobo. Only AMD CPU that is worth buying is Athlon X4 860K and even that is debateable, because if you OC G3258 is way better, if you dont play games that need 4 core+ like far cry 4

Get an i3 from Intel and you can upgrade later on, but it is enough for now. Get the 290 along with it since it'll crush any game. The strong cores +HT make it better than the FX 6300. And you want to overclock your FX, youll have to get a good motherboard and a decent aftermarket cooler. You would spend more and not get the same performance.

This benchmark is not trustworthy. Why does is there 1.5gb more of ram used while playing with i3 ? He is runing something in the backround. No way fx-6300 gets 15FPS more than i3 4150, maybe in some parts of gameplay 1-2 FPS more but not 15. So why would you buy a CPU that is maybe better in 1 game

Looks like the i3 relies on RAM usage.
